Thought on 7spd Tranny

in my opinion, the programing on the fx35 transmission is absolutely awful, particularly for a "semi" sport vehicle. nice car, buy the transmission is definitely a very weak link. It's a shame they don't reprogram it. had mine checked out at the dealer as well, and received the same response as others; works as it is designed.

My transmission was okay although a bit sloppy sometrimes.
So I got the re-flash and it did improve it. I just told them to do it, so they did.

Did you get it re-flashed? Mine was tons better with the flash.

went to pinnacle infiniti in scottsdale, az, and they did their "tests," and they said all was normal and did'nt need the reflash. i will try another dealer sometime, and hopefully they will be more accommodating regarding the reflash. definitely will not go back to pinnacle.

Isn't the reflash a TSB? I though dealers are require to perform a TXB when it shows up on their database
It's an ITB and usually they only do it if your vehicle falls in the range they state on the ITB and your vehicle must exhibit the problem stated on the ITB.
In my case the tech did not take the FX for a run to check it they just took my word for it when I said I wanted it done.

Update after Reflash

Well it's been awhile since I started this thread. I was one of the first to get the reflash done a couple of months ago. Everything was fine for about a month and then the tranny felt like it "reset" (lack of a better term) to it's original settings. It would up shift to 7th at speeds under 40 mph. There was once again a lag in response when passing. All the same issue before I got the reflash

I decided to take it to the dealer to get it checked out, they said everything looks ok. Recently I have been stuck in some stop and go traffic under 40mph. It was horrible! They tranny couldn't figure out what gear to be in. Once traffic opened up, I tried to accelerate and would have to wait for tranny to catch up engine to get going. At that point I had it, I called customer affair and told them the whole story. Regional manager is supposed to contact me tomorrow and told me to schedule service appointment for this Saturday.

I really hope they can do something because I don't want to be driving around in a $45K car that shifts like my 92 Camaro that I paid $1300 for!

End rant :(

I did my reflash several months ago, and my transmission has remained solid. I have only driven about 2,000 miles since I had it done, but I have seen no evidence of a return to the original problem.

Tranny is a PIECE OF SHIZZLE. Excuse my language. but I figured out how to solve it. Leave it on sports mode and burn tons of gas.

Master tech from Infiniti should be looking at it today. I drove another 2009 FX with a later production date than mine and it felt totally different! I really think there is something up with my car. I hope they get me into another FX but that is wiseful thinking at this point.

Funny thing is, they gave me a G37 sedan as a loaner and that 7 spd didn't feel a whole lot better than my FX. Crossing my fingers at this point that Infinit does the right thing.

Update: They are going to preform an ECU reflash that will hopefully correct the throttle response issues. If not, I will be paying this car off early and trade it in for an MDX (boring I know)!

One more update. The dealer still has my FX and now a tech for Japan will be checking out the FX on Friday.

That's good news.

I hope it gets worked out. Mine is later production date and I have no issues.

And I really think that is the issue. Whatever tranny or engine management software they have in the later production models is the key to the solution.

In the mean time I'll be taking the G37 loaner to NY for Thanksgiving week.

Finally getting my FX back today! They installed some type of recorder to monitor the tranny behavior. My wife is picking up the car now. I'll drive it tonight or tomorrow to see if there is any improvements.

I am not a electrical engineer, but here is my take. The FX35's throttle sensing is done by software, not hardware. When you step on the gas, it sends a digital signal and the tranny responds. Infiniti has made the programming "safe" not as responsive as we are all use to from previous vehicles with older technology. With that said, I spent my money on an FX35 with over 300 HP because I wanted a crossover that looked badass and drove like a sports car. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE. I only take pleasure in looking cool on the road now. This would be so easy to fix with the proper software if it was available. I HATE THE WAY MY FX35 shifts.

I have had the re-flash. I brought my vehicle in after almost dying one day when I needed to change lanes and my vehicle did not respond to me stepping on the gas all the way for almost 2 seconds! Most people would not be looking for these power mods if you could effectively use the power the vehicle already has. The only way that I have found to utilize most of it is to drive in sport mode. THIS SUCKS TOO! Not in the way of better acceleration, but when the vehicle downshifts. More time should have been spent at Infiniti working out these down shifting formulas. Quite frankly they should be embarrassed.

Do I sound disgruntled???? I AM!!!!! My G37 (5 speed) is much better, but still has similiar issues. I will probably not get another FX35. I actually bought a Victory Vegas motorcycle to get my "sport" time in on the road. My wife drives the G37.

I will now get off my soap box! Thanks for listening. (The dealership doesn't really care!)

I'm going to bring my baby in for service soon, going to get the reflash see if it helps. Funny thing is the delay in downshift didn't show up until about 10,000km in? it really become noticeable the more i drive it. I have to mention I leave the shifter on DS mode ALL THE TIME, once the car is all warm up i snap it to the left and leave it there. The delay throttle response is still there in DS albit a little better than D mode.

So I mostly drive in manual shift now, at least infiniti did it right with the sports shift, it feels resonably snappy and the feel of the shift either thru shifter or the flappy paddles are great, driving it in manual makes me fall in love with my fx over and over. much better implemented than the limitied experience i had with other luxury brand (BMW and Merc)
