They're Here!

In other note. Hey EG3 when are we getting those Picts???

I'm waiting on TurboCad to finish the badgeless grille. I'll be in NY on the 12th (Dave you sure you can't take an hour off?).. Hopefully that day or that weekend I'll get some good pics whether it's snowing or not. Let me illustrate how dirty my FX is now:

Weird how those brakes stay so clean with all that dirt around..

Please keep it to pm's, don't make me close this thread.

As I said, try it out... I'm not going to spend any time by trying to convince you.. What I know is 20x8.5 +38 and with your wheels, you'll need to use spacers.. Try it out and prove me wrong...

yeah, that doesn't make much sense....spend money in hopes of making it work when a little recon on the forums will yield the answer.

to give you an idea of how eyeballing an answer isn't a good approach....I just measured - about 35mm clearance between stock calipers and the OZ's I have.

I had measured it as well. I had about 23-25mm space between the stock calipers (06 ones) and the wheels I had now before getting the FX50 brakes.

I actually stopped being lazy, went down and measured it. The clearance between the fattest point on the calipers on my 06 and the inner edge of the rim is 23mm.

You have about 10mm more but still short.. I stand by my word that they won't fit but it looks like it'll be a close one.. As I said, try it out.. Maybe you'll be lucky..

I wish, but I'm on a redeye to Newark on the 12th. I actually wont even be in the area until early on the 13th . . of which I'm on a direct path to New Millford from EWR. I take it you'll be back up north on Friday anyway?
& damn, that is one dirt dog. Have you been playin with JB on the lakes? lol

Would love to see the entire muddy beast.

More like salt than mud.. I have it stuck everywhere.. Last storm was light snow=>heavy snow=>sleet=>rain=>freezing cold. Reminded me the Street Fighter combos I used to do back in the day

The brakes look fantastic! Thanks for keeping us up to date. Not sure how wheel offset has nothing to do with brake clearance.

got word back from Tire Rack....need a 5mm spacer to clear the FX50 brakes with the OZ's I have. That means new wheel studs OR doing 15-25mm spacers like you did to accomodate the small stock stud length.

5mm spacers were what I was thinking in your case as well.. I say get 10mm spacers and be sure they'll clear. It'd be a really tight fit with the 5mm ones. By the way, I don't know how deep grooves you have behind the OZs but my Ichiba V2 type spacers required cut stock studs to fit.. If you end up getting the FX50 brakes, I say get either H&R or Ichiba V1 spacers. V2 is plug and play, no stud needed to replace but then you're risking cut stock studs like me or thicker 20mm spacers..

Im about to purchase these. The shop that did my brakes before I got the wheels put on said my brake issues (noise, shimmer on a quick stop) is due to the bigger wheels, freaken Southern MD, blame it on anything else, don't investigate anything. My question is I have a 10" wheel with a 38 or 40 offset. I know the wheel did not need spacers in the rear, but I needed spacers in the fron to clear the calipers. I added 10MM spacers to clear the OEM calipers, will I have to go with bigger spacers? I guess a better question would be how much bigger is the FX50 caliper? Lastly, I didn't notice this question answered in the writeup, but are the FX50 brakes plug and play with OEM setup? Appreciate the write up. Thanks

Joe @ infinitipartsusa.com @ $830 and free 2 day shipping this holiday season.. Give him a call.. You'll need spacers though. 15 mm minimum as far as I know. I'm getting Ichiba v2 for that part

Should I mention IS...

I can make a educated guess that , yes you will need larger spacers (how much, not sure). Remember, the stock 20" wheels need spacers to clear the bigger brakes , but fine with stock brakes.

Yeah, Im running 22X10 now with at 10MM spacer. I have an extra pair of 10MM spacers that I just recieved sitting in a box. Im planning to return to the seller for an exchange once I get confirmed that I need 15MM, but now Im concerned about running out of space under their and may possibly start to rub inside on turns.

Guys I just called to order and I asked for the FX50 brake kit. Guys says G37 upgrade? Then another guy in the background is talking about having something that is ready without needing to add pieces to make it work. So Im lost...lol.

Let me answer the first question first: My 06 calipers (they are a little more beefier than the 03-05) had about 23-25mm clearance before the FX50 brakes with the stock 20" wheels. I needed 15mm more to clear the 50 brakes. That makes about 40mm total. If I'd guess that the 03-05 calipers are 5mm thinner (I'm totally guessing here, don't know if there's any more lateral clearance than 06-08), that gives a min 35mm clearance to clear OEMs.

Now, as many people have said, the caliper clearance is more dependent on the hub shape and the spoke design. I think you'll need to go with bigger spacers, probably at least 20mm ones (+10 over your current setup), but can't say how much.

On the second question: Just ask for Joe and talk to him about it. The FX50 brakes are the same as the g37 brakes so yes, it is the same upgrade but it's better to talk to someone who knows about it and Joe is the guy..

On the plug&play Q: The fronts are 98% plug and play given that you have the caliper clearance. There are only a couple of bolts that needs to be shortened a bit which can be done easily by a good shop. The bolts are the ones that connect the brake lines to the caliper so it's not unsafe to shorten them, they don't carry any load, just in case you ask...

Thanks for this info, I've got the spacer guy agreeing to let me return the Ichiba 10MMs that I just bought and recieved. Wow Im wondering, give that I have a 10" wheel and add a 20mm spacer, thats going to be close for space in the front right?

Nice......BaBaLuwee. I just tried to call but Joe is out to lunch....i hope not...lol. Will call soon to get this ordered.

Talking a guy named Justin at infinitipartsusa.com. He is checking to see if they have all the parts needed for the FX50 retrofit. Now I know it was stated that I would need at least 20mm spacers to pass the calipers...correct? I think I have about an inch before I get outside of the fender, but will that cause any rubbing inside when turning? I wonder is anyone out there running 22X10 with 20mm or more spacers in the front?

---------- Post added at 07:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 PM ----------

Justin quoted me $850 for the front brake kit, and about the same or lower for the rears. He could not give me an exact price for the rears because he is waiting for the machined part that Turbo talked about in his writeup, but definitely lower than $2K out the door. He is going to call me in the morning with the measurement and a pdf so I can see what or how far its going to stick out on my wheels. Also on another positive note these will be ready to bolt on at any shop, no mods needed for the bolts.
