quick question on offset/rubbing

I know this has been asked in similar threads but I couldn't figure out a clear answer. Basically, do you think this setup will rub? 20x10 wheels with 25 offset & 275/45/20 tires.. It's a stretch for the tires but should be within limits..

I cant answer the offset question -

But the Tires will be ok - when I got my 20X10 I used my stock RSA tires on them for a couple months.

well, were you lowered when you had 20x10s? If so, did it rub? I believe if it doesn't rub with 265/50s on 10" rims, it wouldn't rub with 275/45s as they're smaller.. Not sure about that though..

I'm lowered on H&Rs with a 10.5" wheel out back, +25 offset, with a 285/35R22, no problems at all. I had three other people in the car with all the luggage in the trunk (full) from LA to Palm Springs and back with nary a problem nor a worry.

I really think you're going to be ok overall, I know so in the back. Tire wise no problem, and I think you'll have enough inside clearance to go lock to lock. It's gonna look good, too!

thief.. what size do you have on the front? I'm planning on 8.5 on the front and 10 at back with same size (275/45/20) tires but a bit worried about the bulge for the fronts..

Depending on how low you are, I think you're going to be fine. I've got 265/40s on 9" wide wheels and there is a ton of clearance on either side. You're bulge, and I mean this in the most heterosexual way possible, will only be slightly bigger.

Ege, is this going to be your daily driven wheel/tire combo? If so, because you are an AWD I would stick as close to the overall oem wheel/tire diameter and height. From my experience with my nismo track wheels I have had the AWD light come on a few times then disappear when the engine was restarted. But I do not know for what reason and nothing happened. I only have my track wheels on a few days at a time and the most was for about 2 weeks.

I personally would not go with different offset wheels on a AWD FX. Just wanted to give you a heads up since i see that you have an AWD.

They'll be summer tires & wheels. I already have oem 20s on oem size tires for winter. I used OZ Canyons 20x9.5 on 275/45/20s summer and winter without problems but I was not lowered. The wheels I'm planning to get come only on 20x8.5 or 20x10 sizes and I personally wouldn't want the bulge with 8.5 width. That's the reason for the questions.. I think if 9.5 didn't have any issues on AWD & slippage 10 shouldn't have as well.. I'm just worried on the rub..

Doc, are you using different width track wheels? Maybe I should go with 20x10 or 20x8.5 all around...

You shouldnt have rubbing with the 275/45/20.
My rims are 20X10 and i have 285/50/20 on them with no rubbing.
Im lowered on Eibachs.

My track wheel specs are:
Front: 19x8.5 +25 285/45-19 - Yoks Advan ST tires
Rear: 19x9.5 +30 295/45-19 - Yoks Advan ST tires

Ege, I would stick to the same size width wheels all around for an AWD FX. Your OZ canyons were 9.5 all around right? If so I wouldn't expect any problems with that setup. Its just looks that the different width wheels seems to trigger something in the AWD system in prolonged driving.

I didn't notice any problems with the nismo's in normal driving or even when I drove it pretty hard in an autocross event. But just to be safe i would still stick with same widths for my daily driving purposes.

I think your issue is from different size tires, not the wheels. There's almost 1% diameter difference between them. I know for sure that different size tires will give you that slip warning on AWD, especially on the start from stop (AWD is on by default). Anyhow, if 10 inch width clears fenders, I'll go with that. Now the decision is whether to get OZ Ultraleggeras and paint them dark grey or to get Gianelle Spideros and swallow the heavy wheel weights.. It's about 25 lbs on Ultraleggeras vs 34 on the Spideros.. I want lipless wheels so those are probably the only affordable choices..

I just wish these came in 5x114.3 pattern :frown: Does anybody know about bolt pattern adapters? Is it safe to use them?

The light never came on from a stop and start or even at the drag strip with even harder starting launches. Anyways, its just a issue to think about. I don't think there is any real need for concern but just something that I experienced. Good luck with your setup.

Thanks for the help Doc.. I'll probably go with 10 inchers just to keep safe..

The issue is tire height more than wheel width and offsets.

The sensors don't know how far out the wheel is from the hub. The only thing it can really sense is wheel rpm and wheel speed. It has parameters it looks for to use as variables against the yaw rate and side G sensors in the car, steering angle sensor ( you can't turn off VDC in a turn until the computer senses you are going in a straight line again)

Will, what offset you're running? The wheels I'm looking at is at 42 offset & 20x10.. That's about 27 mm less inner clearance.. Wonder if that'll be a problem.. It's a lipless wheel though so there might be some more clearance on the caliper side..

I cant remember to be honest - I'll take a look see tomorrow to see what the lil tag on the back of the rim says. Bert, Doc & Dave were there at the LAX meet the night I got them put on - do you guys remember? Oh Rookie was there too -

I actually stopped being lazy, went down and measured it. The clearance between the fattest point on the calipers on my 06 and the inner edge of the rim is 23mm. The rims I was thinking were 20x10 and 42 mm offset which makes it 27mm less inside. No way that will fit.. :frown: So it looks like I'm going 22s
