The Random Question Thread

Which dealership or shop did you have it serviced?

Lol it wasn't a dealership, so no worries.
I had the service done at A+ transmission specialists and well.. On the Murphy road location it's normally $20 if you have all your oil for the drain fill. But apparently, this go around he didn't have time for me, really.

So, I tried another location in Bellaire and had it done, buuuut they charged me 89.99 (normally 149.99 if you don't bring oil) they charged me more than $20 because I only brought 7 quarts... But when I had it done at the other location they only used 3 quarts of my mine and saved the rest for me.. lol, so idk. I need to learn how to do this on my own, seriously.

Since you are in Richmond, you might want to try AutoNation Nissan by Katy Mills. Great service at reasonable prices. West Houston Infiniti Service pales in comparison to these guys.

On this note, give me a holler if you want to give it a shot of doing a DIY. I don't mind to be your shop buddy. That way we learn together. LOL

Yeah I used the Nissan grade ATF. But yeah it was actually the ATF leaking.. Thing is after they removed the pan to inspect it, you have to replace the gasket and I guess they reused the old one. All is fixed now, since they replaced the gasket. I also heard elsewhere that the screws should never be reused.

Random, but is there another brand of ATF that is better than OEM's?

Gasket is not needed for the trans pan. I bet that they probably did not tighten a couple bolts up to proper torque.

But I tighten them after I saw the leak and it still did it.. I read somewhere that you shouldn't reuse the bolts because they're self sealing screws

I done 4 transgo shift kit. No gasket and re-use all the bolts. No leaks. Knock on wood.

I don't think the ones on the FX are one time use. Some cars have one time use screws on the tranny pan though. I've had mine off 3 times and reused the same screws and never changed the gasket, no leaks. Any full synthetic fluid that's JASO A-1 is probably better than the OEM Matic J and equivalent to the Matic S.

Help!!!

I recently swapped a broken fog lamp housing and decided to also replace my flickering side marker LEDs. In the process, I may have inadvertently short circuited something. My side markers including my DTRL are no longer working. I figured it is a simple blown fuse. I tried to switch the fuse marked DTRL from the fuse box by the battery and tried swapping it just to test with a known working fuse but the lights are still out.

Any idea what could have caused it and the fix. Thanks in advance.

Big shout out thanks KNFX and Goldman for providing some support and advise when I removed the front bumper. It was a major PITA...

Hey cruiser, weird question but do you still got the old broken housing? id love to get my hands on it to test fit a projector into it.

Hows the bulb look? you could of popped the bulb and not the fuse.

I have it, it's yours if you wanted it. Just PM me your mailing address.

I also noticed that the center control knobs back lights are out. Does anybody have any insight what the fix might be?

I wish I am as handy as this guy.

Blown head gasket, no problem! Let me grab my tools...

So I was about to throw in the towel and beg the kind sirs at the dealership to graciously accept my offerings of my hard earned money $$$$$ for a 5 minutes worth of work.

Andy - as always you came just in time to save the day.

....and so the legend of HadyAndy continues. Thank's a bunch sir! :good::good::good::congrats:

I totally forgot about this third fuse box. I stumbled upon it in the past when I was running the wires on my Morimoto HID fogs but totally forgot about it. Thanks again Andy. That is why I love this forum because of the abundance of people like you who selflessly share their experience to the uninitiated many.

Your'e welcome Ruben. Had you pulled a late night shift with the FX. Glad you got her all fixed.

^ Hahaha. Good observation. I was watching a documentary on TV last night when I saw your response. I couldn't pass it off to another day so I checked and sure enough found the culprit busted fuse. I realized I didn't have one of those long legged 10 amp fuse so I drove to a 24/7 Walmart about 6 miles from our place. Put it all together, tests it and it works like a charm. Now just waiting for the delivery of the Osram 5500k HIDs for the head lights I ordered and getting shipped from the UK to retire my aging Morimotos which started to flicker.

@dogburrito, you posted in the wrong thread. I've moved it here. To answer your questions, the black headlights and grille for the 1st gen FX are mostly custom made. Search for the DIY on here.

Other option for the head lights is to go with the Sport version from Infiniti, which comes in blacken chrome finish. If you lucky, you may find them on ebay.

For the grille, there was a company made some glossy black badge-less grille as well, and these are very rare now.

DIY them is your bet best.

What are the symptoms of defective high flow cats? The reason I'm asking is that a couple months ago I bought some Kinetix High flow cats and two weeks ago I noticed some shinny glittery particles on the rear hatch door and bumper and I don't think it's anything mechanical.

That's weird I thought it might be the cats, I noticed that it accumulates more when I drive under full throttle. The stock cats started doing that weeks before I switched to high flow cats. I recently had it Uprev tuned and the tuner said that the cats are starting to break up inside and I highly doubt it's my Invidia exhaust. It's kind of annoying seeing those fine little glittery particles all behind my car especially days after I wax it.
