The Random Question Thread

Is there an Offset for Dummies book?
I'm confused on what "offset" is

Additionally, Infiniti set up is "high offset", which is +35-42. OEM is 40.

This is how I understand it - correct me if wrong.
If you run OEM wheels with 25mm spacers, you're in a way adjusting the offset to +15. (40 minus 25)
So, you can run low offset wheels without spacers for the same effect.

That's how I understood offset too Pork. :good:
The lower the offset, the further the wheel seats out toward the edge of the fender.

This is correct.

However infiniti does not use a high offset. Its a standard Japanese offset. Subarus have high offsets in the +55 range. Most infinitis are exactly what u stated +35 thru +45 range. This is on cars for the most part. Could be diffrent on suv/cuv. But not from what I currently see.

Most stance/hellaflush are in the +0 offset or low negatives.

Isn't it just the distance between the hub mount face compared to the center of the wheel? Where positive is more towards the outside of the wheel.

So on a 7" wide wheel, a +89mm (3.5") offset would have the wheel mount at the face basically, and be very far under the fender.

Lol, I've been asking a lot of random questions lately..

Which one would you prefer? Motordyne's TDX V2 w/ ART pipes or Stillen made for our car?

MD, but I'm biased.

It's loud tho.

Ooooo, that's sick. I didn't know anyone did a Motordyne exhaust swap.

Even better, you got the TDX v2 with MD's ART pipes.
What modifications did you need to make it fit and any pics?

I eventually extended the tips, and removed some heat shields, but all the pieces fit since it's for a G35. They don't use traditional gaskets, but v-band clamps so you can rotate the pipes to clear everything. The only thing that didn't fit was the lower gtspec rear tie that hangs down. Although I may have taken that off because it got bent again actually. The upper rear tie, and sway bar both cleared. Had to space down the w-brace because the muffler was kind of resting on it, but that was an easy fix. Kim has heard it in person, so he can give you feedback on that.

What all pics do you want? I don't think I took very many after install. Here's a few:

Sweet, sweet.. I just wanted to know if it was a plug and play.
The MD TDX v2 is a really excellent exhaust

It should mount up more or less just fine, but I guess there are no guarantees. I have like a fingers thickness space in a few spots. I think passenger side midpipe by the rear diff is the closest on two sides, so I ended up having to basically put it right in the middle of almost hitting on either side. I noticed that it seemed like when the HFC's were added it changed up the midpipe enough that the hanger didn't line up as well, and pulled it into the hanger mount on the body, creating a high pitched squeaking. Exhaust shop put a rubber hose over it, so there' something between the metal to metal contact, and when I did the work a couple weeks ago I rotate the hose since it was starting to wear through. Pic below for reference. You can see the rubber grommet, hanger, and the mount.

Will 16-inch wheels with the proper bolt and bore pattern mount up on a Gen 2 FX35? Will they clear the brake calipers?

Highly doubt it would. Take your tire off and measure the width from the edge of the caliper to the opposite edge of the rotor will give you a better idea.

This is what a mechanic told me regarding TPMS...

We can try to remove them but the sensors are likely to break. The threads are usually seized as these sensors are are not designed for regular servicing and are exposed to the elements. We can try but that is what usually happens unless the vehicle is fairly new (less than 2 years) or only summer driven. New sensors will cost you $59.95 each plus $50 to program them to the ECM. Do the current wheels with the sensors have tires mounted on them?

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Is this true or are they just trying to sell me new TPMS ? I bought a TPMS rebuild kit from Discount Tire, can i not just re-use the stock TPMS ?

I swapped my TPMS when I got new wheels with no issues. Considering that they are inside the tire I wouldn't call them exposed to the elements. I guess it depends on your location as well.

Ok guys I need your infinite knowledge, someone is selling a Rotora bbk setup from his 350z and I was wondering if it would bolt onto our fx without any problems? I called a few shops around town and they all say maybe and I emailed Rotora but they haven't responded yet.... So I don't know where else to go from here.

Aiya has a Rotora BBK, not sure if its from a 350z setup. In case he doesn't see this thread maybe you can try PM-ing him?
