The Random Question Thread

^ Yeah i found it a little bit odd. The ironic part was that this sign was hanging right next to cashier when she was insisting that the full set was needed:

I would think anytime you cut a spring it will affect the way it is supposed to work and will affect the handling. You ever see the ricers with cut springs and when they hit a small pebble in the road the car goes bouncing everywhere, that's the end result with cut springs.

Hope Bklynjohn would chime in on his personal experience on cut spring on the FX. I'm pretty sure cut his H&R.

Reason being I'm thinking about buying someone's h&r's on ebay but the front two have half a coil cut. I know the rate goes up but I don't think it would affect it that much, do you guys?

TC6 has some good posts about cut springs since he did that at one point. I know he said everything about how to do it, how to cut, etc. but it's been a few years.

You can cut linear springs without any odd side effects (aside from lowering, obviously) as long as they don't have formed ends. Our front springs are a perfect example of a linear spring without a formed end (the bottom). Cutting some amount off an appropriate spring has only one effect: shortening the spring. That translates directly to a lowered ride height, and that is all. Assuming you don't cut enough off to hit your bump stops or mangle your fender, there is no down side.

1/2 coil off the H&Rs has been done by several FX'ers. It's not sketchy.

Speaking of mangled fenders, I took this at a local Audi show last week. This S4 was on bags and both rear fenders looked like this. At normal driving height you could see the rust and cracked metal where he just sat the body down on the rim. Completely ruined the car for that last 1/4" of drop while he's parked. Ugh.

^^ Looks like he did a tire-delete-mod to get as low as possible. "You don't really need rubber anyways."

What a big fat oops that is!

Those are X5 wheels. He's early 20's, I'm not sure really. I only "know" him vicariously through the forums. And he's got tires on there, but they are stretched so far the fender slides down between them and the wheel in the back. Definitely one of those "form > function" type of guys. Ironic that he would choose an S4 for a project like that, but whatever...

Got my dash replaced at the dealer with the extended warranty because of the bubbling but since then I have been having an annoying issue. For some reason my car doesn't honk the horn when I lock, and doesnt flash the lights when I unlock. I've reset and done the settings in the vehicle electronics settings a bunch of times and it still wont work. I've been thinking of pulling the negative terminal on the battery and leaving it for a few minutes to reset the ECU. Anyone know what this could be?

Look for an electrical fuse in the kick panel; there might be a break. For the 2nd Gen it's labeled "electrical", might be similar on the Gen 1.

I have mine set to the beep instead of the horn and had what seems like the similar issue. I always use the door handle buttons (beep) and never use the remote (horn). When mine went silent, I held the lock and unlock buttons on the remote down simultaneously for 3-5 seconds. It reset and the beep was back.
Worth a try.
