The Random Question Thread

Yes Andy I'm going to be moving there for a year. I'll be working in Aurora and just wondering if it's a nice/safe town to live in. I'm still deciding if I wanna bring my FX down. I would love to meet the Chi crew.

Does anybody know who lives in Chicago if It's ok for me to drive with Cali plates here for awhile or will I get pulled over?

Drive as long as you want. I've had friends drive cars from California, Canada etc for all 4 years of college and another 4 post grad.

Does anyone have a diy on how to change the actual fog light assembly? Mine was cracked so I ordered a new one I just need to figure out how to get it in.

Thanks bro, I appreciate it. Also are they strict in IL about front license plates? Where do you live in IL by the way?

Just wondering I recently had the invidia exhaust installed on my fx and had a custom hanger welded where the exhaust touches my rear lower lateral GT spec brace for clearance. It works fine except for when I hit bigger bumps on the road/highway. I also brought the fx for alignment and they couldn't do the rear because of the GT spec brace. My question is do you guys think it would be better for me to remove the brace and maybe sell it???

Are you lowered? When I had mine on H&R Springs with the GTSPEC Lower Lateral brace, I never had any problem with alignment. If the brace is truly preventing aligning the car, elongate the GTSPEC brace mounting holes should give more adjustment.

I was lowered on H&R with the GTS brace and my shop did play with the bolts holding the brace to tweak the alignment. They had no problems that I can remember though.

I'm not lowered but I might see if I can get the bolt holes a little longer, see if I can custom something up if not I'll just take it off so that I won't damage it. I'd rather sell it than ruin it.

Just by elongate the two mounting holes on the brace 0.25" on each side will give you plenty of room for adjustment. I did that for three braces when I install the SPC camber bolts onto coilovers lowered FXes. Elongate the holes will not ruin the brace!

I feel that my car remote signal is getting weaker, I got a new battery last month so it shouldn't acting like this.
Past ~20 feet, I can't lock/unlock my car while the keyfob is in my pocket.

Is there an antennae in the car?

Quick question!! I am finally going to try and get my foglight situation settled (I believe the HID ballast went out on the driver side). I was wondering if I got a set of OEM ballasts like the headlight ones and just use the proper h8 bulbs could I use those for my foglights? I really never trust aftermarket ballasts because they always seem to die on me.

It way too much work to use stock headlight ballast to drive the fog. Doesn't worth the trouble in my opinion. You'll have to find pigtail connector to convert the fog H8 connector to fit into the stock ballast for the source, and then find connector to convert the ballast D2S output to H8 bulb. If you use the D2S bulb instead of H8 bulb, it will not seat and seal correctly at the fog housing. Just get the Restrofit SOurce 3Five Ballast. I have installed a couple of these. The wire harness and ballast is so beefy and quality built. I have ran with the DDM ballast and bulbs for years without any issue.

Does anyone know the exact name for the cable that goes from the back of the foglight or hid ballast into the harness. It has a female plug that you connect the hid ballast into. Mine has melted inside and so i need that cable. I cant find it anywhere and the dealer told me they dont know which cable im talking about.

Would upgrading the tweeters in my G35 make a difference in sound quality? I have the non bose system which sucks when it comes to the highs in songs

Yes, and the non bose system is ideal for this because the crossover will be on the speaker instead of in the amp. Ie, replacing the high freq driver will bring a better xover along with it. The problem with this approach is that you will probably be left with either a gap or an overlap in response between the existing mids and the new highs, which will sound funky.

The real solution is a matched component set that will include a crossover, mid range driver, and tweeter. Like this:
