Since the FX is now going to be called QX70, will the 1st gen and 2nd FX's lose their value due to this change?
Or will they become classics![]()

Ok some random questions
so at the moment I'm undecided to what do I want to get a 35 or a 45. I being doing my homework and try to find out mods I can do the the 35 If i get it to get its horse power up there. As I mentioned before,if I get my FX it'll be more of a project than anything else. So I won't go crazy on it at the beginning. But my goal is to have a nice performance engine and transmission. So searching the web I stumbled into this.
some info about the engine
http://www.modified.com/news/sccp_0807_all_motor_vq35de_top_shop_challenge/viewall.html
1) price for a short block
http://www.stillen.com/product/engi...5-4255.html?osCsid=kjpp3o3dot33n6rvalvbeq6584
2) prices for a long lock
http://www.importpartspro.com/vqloblpa.html
3) bullet proof transmission
http://www.importperformancetrans.com/nissanre5.shtml
Some of my question is.
4) what are the benefits of a short block over the long block and vice versa.
5) Will the install be just a straight pull the old engine out and drop the new one in since they are VQ35s?
6) i know there will be a tunning once everything is installed but would I have to change anything else to cope with the power? Ie. differentials?
7) I think that engine is able to make 400hp or a bit more. So would the OEM differentials be able to handle that power without any problems?
Anyways I'm sorry for so many question folks.. I just want to have a plan before I start doing anything.. I haven't found much info for mods for the 45 yet.. But I'm still looking.
thank you all !
1) That is THE most expensive shortblock you could possibly find. Way overkill for a 400hp goal.
2) These are much better options.
3) I dont have any knowledge of those options, but Level10 also offers built Nissan transmissions.
4) Expense and modular assembly. If you dont need heads or you want to have the head work done elsewhere, you can get a block built without them (shortblock) and install the heads yourself. If you have the cash and don't want to bolt on a set of heads, you can get the whole deal (longblock) from one place.
5) No. A longblock is a shortblock with heads, timing set, and water pump. All of the plumbing, ancillary components (alternator, power steering, etc...), and electrical will need to be transferred from the old motor.
6) 425whp is the magic number. After that, everything changes. Before that, all you need is upgraded fueling and transmission.
7) For a while, yes, but normal wear and tear would be accelerated by the increased power.
I saw some short blocks for sale on My350z.com. They pop up from time to time. You can save tons of money buying a used built engine, IMO.
