The Random Question Thread

That's accurate. I was giving first hand experience with fixing the scratches?

Here's a question
Anyone ever replace hood shocks? (Not sure that's the correct term)

#12 in this pic is called the support rod.
Not sure if anyone has replaced it before, only the tail gate.

I have NRG HD-300 hood damper in my FX35 and that's the one everyone uses on their FX on here. The HD-300 was made for the 350Z. I found its a bit too short leaving the hood fully opened too low. If you work under hood enough, you will bang your forehead going in or back of your head coming out :smile (2): . I went through lots of trouble to have them sent me the extension pieces in the red circle in the picture below.

Here is a picture of what will be included in the HD-300 kit. Note that the extension pieces are not included.

At the time, they didn't not have pictures of the HD-300, so they had to send me the extension pieces as it was stated in the instruction to use it if needed and its was not optional pieces. Now they have pictures of the part so there is no question on what's included. I found it a tad too long with the extension and caused the hood a bit higher then the fender. Without the extension, it hood line up just fine.

Gotta be first. I love coming up to a stop light and flipping it over to manual mode when someone pulls up next to me. :)

Speaking of downshifting, my worst gear to downshift is 1..
Every time I do it, I have to brace myself for the long lunge forward lol

in the beginning when i owned the fx. It nevere acted that way, as miles and constant manual shifting took place years later the car now lunges forward.

So you are running the NRG 350Z damper less the extension? Do you still catch your head on occasion?

No, I had the extension in place. The hood opening just way too low without them. Now that NRG's site include pic with a tape measure to show their length, might just take a measurement of the stock ones and go thruough their listing to find the "right" one.

Are the top two bolts on the catalytic converters easier to remove from under the hood or under the car?
plan to replace my faulty cat with resonated test pipes this weekend

Do you have extension pieces for your socket wrench? I think I usually used a wrench from below to hold the nut/bolt still, then loosened with about a 3 foot long worth of extension socket wrench from the engine bay. Could be the opposite though, I can't remember for sure. Point being, on one side you need to hold it still so either way you're working from top and bottom.

Actually I think you have to do it from the bottom, or the wrench will fall off. BTW, I think each cat to header connection has one stud, so that you can do from the top I think it is.

I bought some extra extensions today. Not sure if I want to try this at night in the garage or wait till saturday afternoon.

The top nut on each side comes off front the front with a 3' extension like Stu said.
