Thx Stu...yeah that's the one I was looking at. So you think that would be good to go with? What brand are u guys runnnig?
 
Ok, here is my DIY OCC photos:

Here is the 1/4" air compressor filter I chose to use, with the fittings already attached and sealed with RTV that has been curing for a couple days.

I didn't like that the drain on it was essentially uncontrollable. It would randomly stop water from draining when you turn this little knob, but wasn't reliable at all, so I just plugged both sides with RTV.

I use the holes on the filter to attach screws, washers, and zip ties for my mount.

Chose this location to mount it, and drilled 4 holes.

Threaded the zip ties through and attached. Also had 2 zip ties together go around the actual OCC to provide support should the other ties break. Also ran another 2 ties through this extra support and around the grounding wire to provide more extra support.

Here's the hose that comes off, already removed. Goes from the yellow nipple to the long pipe out of the front of the plenum.

If I were to do it again, I would go to Harbor Freight for the can and gold fittings because it was a lot cheaper there. Not sure if they had any hose though.

Not bad stu, but im not a fan of all the zip ties everywhere. Maybe ill contract the OCC man himself brad to whip me up something:wink:

I think it looks good and is a nice piece. That is what I would run if I didn't just build my own for cheaper. I just like how mine is a lot simpler. One hole in, one hole out, and a place for the oil to fall, not too much that can go wrong.

Yeah, I just needed something quick and easy. I think one of those metal hoop brackets around the clear plastic and into the sheet metal would be best and look a lot better. I just completely forgot about a bracket when I was buying stuff and threw together what I could. Those zip ties are actually from the DDM foglight kit.

In general I don't like the sight-tube on any can. It's another leak path and I don't think those push lock connectors are right for the application. The plastic sight tube begins to yellow and harden over time.

I tried the eBay brand first and it was too restrictive - I could hear it depressurize after turning off the car. I ended up buying another can and spending twice as much. Don't cheap out on this because the PCV system is an important part of your motor's long term reliability. You want the PCV system to function the way it was designed but with a way to collect and remove blow-by contaminants.

Thx Jumbo....great advice. Yeah I don't want to go cheap on this, I was planning on getting a quality one. I'll report back when I decide on one.
 
So, it's clearly working, this was after an hour of driving. However, the heat here is just way too much especially under the hood and it seems the hose can't handle it. Wondering what hose is best for heat resistance? This was the best hose I could source locally, so will probably order online for V2.

You want fuel line from an auto parts store.

Damn that just reminded me when I was at AutoZone and asked if they had fuel hose and the guy asked what size so I said I think 5/8" and he just kinda ignored me after that. Maybe I'll try a different store.
 
Silicone should work - that's what every version of mine have used. Go for the correct diameter with the thickest wall you can find. I've used the stuff on siliconeintakes.com several times.

Like I said before - the DIY is fun, but you end up improving or re-doing it a couple times and it ends up costing as much as if you just bought a kit that works.

I'm surprised at how much it caught after just an hour of driving. Wonder what it would look like after a week?
 
Yeah did you see my PM? Thing is I'm building one for Will also so I'm using this as a prototype to perfect his. This was the model people used back in 2004-2005 when there was nothing else.
 
Sketched out the new fixture. I was kind of sad to let my custom vented setup go, but the breathers were not doing the job - the blowby was making it through the breathers and settling in the bay.

A guy I know who has a 650whp G35 uses a pair of OCCs, with suction with no issues. I plan to do the same now. Here's a rough sketch - it will sit in exactly the same place as the old setup. Instead of being vented, this will have two hoses routed to the air intake before the turbo.

I sent this sketch to the shop - I'm hoping they can fab it up without my FX. They have the old OCC and can use it for mounting points & envelope fit.

I made the, "S" bracket but the wire frame came from Powerfab's scrap bin. The sketch I posted above shows a custom mounting plate and will take the place of this temporary setup - just wanted to make sure it works as I want it to before I ask the shop to fabricate a permanent mounting plate.

Here's the shop's work - Powerfab finished this up and changed it up a little to make it more easily serviceable and a little cleaner. I had to take a couple photos with the decal before removing it - this one's for you PFA!

its time to stock up on mods for the spring. in October, i did spacer mod and the plenum was disgusting so ive decided imma put a occ in. is the first diagram still the recommended way for n/a? any recommended brands that doesn't break the bank?
 
I just got a Mishimoto catch can. Pretty good quality at a reasonable price. We have them in stock also.
