STS Rear-mount turbo

since you are the first fx with the kit maybe they can hook you up.............or maybe I am still sleeping and dreaming I'm writing this.
Still dreaming. I brought up this issue that it could open up a new market for them if it goes well. They weren't looking at that as a big deal lol...

On a side note, think I can get JUST the turbo exhaust manifolds from a JWT TT kit or Power Enterprise TT kit? I'm now leaning more and more towards a totally custom made kit. The ONLY custom work needed is piping... and my bro works for AMS with welding experience... he told me they have a damn near unlimited supply of different bends and lengths of intake piping, and same for stainless steel tubing for exhaust work.

I priced out everything BRAND NEW that I'd need for the STS kit, and everything minus piping and the turbo's oil setup ran about $3000 even. Hard to imagine $2000 for piping and oil lines/pump.

Will be calling them tomorrow to try and cancel the order w/out a restocking fee since I'm very disappointed with them and not thinking it's a great deal anymore.

Well I stopped by Forged today and all I have to say is WOW!

1st off the brackets on the intercooler had to be replaced because they didnt reach.

2nd a couple of lines were missing I think fuel line was one of them but dont quote me on that.

3rd all the bolts were to small for teh holes drilled so washers had to be used.

4th the bracket for the intake doesnt do sh!t and an extra one has to be made so it doesnt keep hitting another pipe.

5th the wrong spark plugs were sent to me!

I will have a complete list of everything that was missing on tuesday when the car is done.

Damn sorry to hear about the STS...that sucks bro.
$2000 does seem a bit crazy for piping, and since you got a hook up at a shop im sure a custom job will run you a bit cheaper and you can get exactly what you want.
hope it works out for you...i might be getting an invoice/write up from VTR within the next few days about a Turbonetics ST Kit and i think im headed that route to go F/I next spring/summer when classes are out.

Received about half of the refund as of last night. Still waiting on a few grand more.

Now I'll work on piecing together a twin turbo setup for February. Everything's pretty much one hold until then, but I found great deals on brand new stuff... the tricky part is gonna be the exhaust piping for the twins to clear the AWD transfer case. I will have the intake piping completely customized, along with intercooler sizing and dual exhaust. First thing's first though, need the turbo manifolds (would like to go with one from an already great kit like a JWT or APS if they fit...).

That stinks, tell them you are a mod for an FX/EX forum and you will be doing reviews and a write up, since you are the first fx with the kit maybe they can hook you up.............or maybe I am still sleeping and dreaming I'm writing this.

The suppliers shouldn't underestimate these forums. I made my FI purchase based on info from the .Org (it pre-dated this forum).

Cube..

As of now STS is willing to flirt with me and have one of his guru guys here in the West Coast try to do something with my VK engine.

I have not really posted anything yet since I have not really made any commitments with anyone. And really no one that I have talked to is really willing to tackle this project due to spacing issues. STS seems to be the only logical choice for my FX.

I tried calling rookie but he was not available. i wanted him to give me some insight on what direction or suggestions he might have when it came to turbos on the FX.

Based on what I have read, I will bring up your case and see if they can redeem themselvs through me or just not do anything at all.

Thanks for sharing your experience and I know it will help me allot when I deal with them on Thursday...

Good luck. "Wild" Bill Divine was the one who helped me with the issues I had with STS. If all else fails, get a hold of him.

Nobody's really tested the waters on the VK's internals yet as far as FXs go I assume... STS does seem like a very logical choice given the engine bay space for a rather large V8 motor... I think the VK45 is one of the largest 4.5L engines there is lol...

I will keep him in mind.

The VK is not the largest that STS has experimented with. Yet, the spacing for any FI is very hard.

STS is the logical choice. But, will it actually work? I will see on Friday..

BTW sorry to highjack your thread....

Hah, no hijacking here... I'm done w/ STS. I just don't like how they do business, so be very weary. As far as largest motor, it's definitely not the biggest they've dealt with as their usual customers are pickup trucks, Camaros and Corvettes.

What I was referring to was the VK45 being a rather large 4.5L V8. I'm pretty sure it's bigger than the 4.6L Modular V8 in Mustangs, and is much bigger than the 5.0L in the older Mustangs. Not to mention the fact that an LSX fit inside a 350Z engine bay, but a VK45 would have some definite trouble gettin under that hood.

Unrelated topic(s) aside, the only thing I think you should worry about is that poor tranny (recommend the usual VB+TC+Cooler upgrades) and the fuel/engine management. Does the VK use the same injectors as the VQ? Think you can get Technosquare to do your tuning via flash? That would seem to be the most logical approach since I don't know of any piggyback or standalone units that are compatible with the VK's ECU...? Hopefully the injectors are the same.

TS is the way to go and I am in the process of getting the VB from Level10 and will get a TC from Edge.

Then I would actually moove forward with any type of FI, be it STS or any other.

I guess I will be heading in the right direction.

BTW. I hope all is well at home and keep your head up.

Peace:smile:

The drawback for STS has always been the price. $6000-6500 for an installed single turbo system that you can easily break/dent? No thanks.. I'd rather get the JWT @ $8000 installed.

I am a huge fan of the STS rear mounted turbo. If it was not my new purchase I would of gotten this done on my baby...

Just need to save up and wait...

I'm going to do some more research and stop by a local STS dealer. Anyone else do any research on this that has a VK45DE? This seems like the *easiest* forced induction being there are no kits out for the engine.

Hopefully customer service improved by now...
