Sons Car

an SUV gives a kid less tempting to speed than a car . especially an FX . an FX is comfortable and smooth ridding and the audio system is awsome . all u wanna do is just cruise and enjoy the ride .

no 16 year old is gonna race a hummer with a 911. unless hes retarded or something . i think that story is kinda BS . thats just common sense.

I have to disagree on these two points. First one is that FX is so far the best handling and fastest feeling SUV I've driven so far. That means you can push the FX harder than most of the SUVs out there which makes it more tempting.. Compared to a car? Yes, FX might be less tempting but take into consideration that with the FX, you can go head to head with many of the cars out there..

On the second one, no offense but I assume you're close or a bit more than 16? There are plenty of 16-17-18 year old idiots out there (I was one of them when I was 18. I'm still close to being an "idiot" sometimes now at 29) that think they have inhuman reflexes that can save them from any situation OR a hard rock car/suv won't allow anything to happen to them OR a downhill race against a 911 can be won.. I'm not implying anybody over here or don't want to generalize but it's a solid truth that you'll drive more careless if you're between 16-18/19.. It's all in the character BUT the percentage of people driving carefully around those ages is a minority.

What I personally needed when I was around those ages was a good slap of hard truth which I unfortunately received by hitting a kid when I was 19. Thank God, he is all right now but ANY 16-18/19 year old out there needs to think twice before claiming they're "good drivers". The "good" part in that is two pieces: talent & responsibility. One may have talent but responsibility only comes as you age. And during that you have to be patient and drive slower cars  An FX35 (or maybe even 45) might be a good fit but still I'd make sure of my son's character and willingness to go fast before giving him the FX.

your a pretty retarded kid if u think u can beat a 911 in a down hill race . and an FX is just a nice luxurious ride . if u think its fast you have no clue what fast is. not to put down the FX or anything cause i own one . but an FX is not fast at all . if ur using an fx to speed ur pretty stupid . an SUV luxurious . smooth riding , alot of space inside ,awsome sound system . theres nothing racing about it .and u cannot go head to head with almost any car of course unless u race a corolla or something but any sports car or sporty car will take an FX .yes i was one of those idiots also, everyone was at those ages but i learned my lesson when i crashed my s2000. thats y i got my FX to stay away from the speeding and just have a nice comfortable ride i can enjoy everyday . The FX is a great first car if the father can afford it .

perfect just "rag" out and ruin the smoothness and the way it drives of this beautiful car . stick to 350z or g35 or g37 if u wanna speed or race and kill your self .

So if you think your son is responsible and deserves the car, then make him a happy kid.

I agree, since i am basically in the same situation as fxguy4690. If you take yourt kid driving and he shows that he is a good driver, based on your skills, then maybe that would help in the decision. If your kid is a bad driver, why spend all the money? If he deserves it, can handle it, and is responsible, then you decide. it's your money. I would love to say "F YEAH GET HIM AN FX :-P" but sometimes there are drivers who lack skill, etc. etc.

Hmm, very true. A good kid, doesn't show off, has good grades, doesn't complain, and most important... won't let other friends take advantage of him with free rides. Budget for 1st car increases by $10k

Punk kid, bad grades, wants to show off, complains, superficial...
Budget = Used 02' Elantra

Have to show them that their car reflects their personality, so I guess that's why certain people drive BMW's.......

o my son is a great driver in my opinion. his sister lets him drive her drive her X5 4.6is, her Range Rover SC and sometimes her husbands (his brother- in-law), well he lets him haha, drive his dinan tuned 335i convertible (6 speed) and he is great at driving and at shifting  . he likes speed but i know he can control his urge to speed. he has shown me. i havent got him behind the wheel of the fx yet.

i hate you too.

Haha.....kidding. If you do it once in your FX lifetime just to try, then it's okay.....i guess.

But if I was your father and caught you doing that, 02' Elantra you go.

I've cold started it and romped on it a total of 3 times.
the drifting is another story.....
I've calmed down a little since I made my dad's xk8 have to go to the shop to get its pulley bolt replaced and tightened because I figured out that it does sick burnouts and drifts...... but yea haha. I know I am an idiot.

Hahaha Classic.....you set yourself up for that one JB:laugh:

yeah I really did.....haha but it's chill.

In my opinion giiving that kind of car to such a young person is a negative. I grew up with the mentality that one need to earn what they get in order to appreciate thing in life.. When you give such a car to such a young person they will treat it the same way they got it.. Easy come easy goes.. But hey it's your kid your car your bill.

I'm 20 and I just got my FX. My first car was 1 year old TSX. Got a great deal on it, and it was a sweet car. Modded it up a bit, nothing too serious though. More importantly, when all my friends we're getting 3 series coupes and S4's, I was learning the value of Money. Your son will appreciate it much more if he has to build his way up to it, even more so if it is sitting in the driveway, staring him in the face everyday. I know I'm young, but from the little experience I have, He'll love the FX much more.

If it's going to be something powerful, get something with lots of safety features particulary lots of air bags.

If he's a good kid and he deserves it in your eyes, then get him the car. You're not buying him a Carerra GT, you're giving him you're old car, as long as he deserves it. If he is immature and won't actually appreciate how lucky he is, then I would say hold off for now, and get him something that he can beat up, have fun with, and then appreciate the FX even more. But if he's a good kid, go for it.

wait your friends were driving Audis and BMWs, but you were learning the value of money driving an Acura TSX? Come on bud.

My first car i got in 1999 just before i graduated high school. it was a 1988 Oldsmobile. If you had said something more along those lines then I would agree with you. But saying "i drove a 1 year old TSX to learn the value of money" is just absurd. Hell my FX is older than that by a long shot.
