Snow tire question

Sounds perfect, you will be set for the white stuff, and it will look great too.

Looks fantastic, you will love those Hakkapallettas in the snow.

@ichiroll Sorry to resurrect this thread, but what size are those tires? I never saw a definitive indication in the previous posts and I also cannot see the Width/Aspect Ratio/Radius in the pictures.

I have a 2010 FX35 AWD in MN with 265/50/R20 stock wheels and tires and am looking for winter / snow tire suggestions. Instead of a dedicated snow tire I'm most interested in a good all season radial with good snow performance that's better than the stock Bridgestone Dueller tires.

What size would you recommend? Would you stay with 265/50/R20? Or would a more narrow tire provide better traction on snow?

Thanks!

The Yokohama Parada Spec-X was a very solid all-season tire. Not sure if you can still find them, but a great all-around tire.

I have Blizzaks DM-V1 on OEM 18". I've only done 1 winter with them, and I'm quite content with them. I live in northern Canada, and the winter here is very harsh. For me, I couldn't see myself spending a lot of money on bigger wheels that will get salt, dirt, and sand that are put on the roads in the winter. Plus, OEM 18" are more common, so I found an extremely good deal on them. It was in the ball-park of $100 per wheel. On top of that, I saved some money on smaller size tires.

Some food for thought for you. :smile (2):

I like your thinking.. I'll be looking for your exact setup.. thanks bro.

I have Blizzaks on the OEM 18s as well. After the first couple snows of the year, all I can say is "what the hell took me so long???"

Up I’m debating between winter tires and all season tires. Any recommendations

Where do you live? Scratch that, the fact that you are debating the question says snow belt. Get winter tires, the traction difference will astonish you. If you are in an area that does not get much snow/freezing rain, then maybe look for performance focused winter tires, which will give you more dry traction.

I’m debating about these tires bc there’s a close out sale

21" winter tires - youzers - you sure you don't want to come down in size; way more options. The Scorpion winters are on my shortlist as well when it comes to replace my current set. From the few independent tests of them I can find, they come above mid pack, but do not top 3 (Continental/Michelin/Nokian). They skew more 'performance' and are above average on dry tarmac. But let's be honest, when the weather is super nasty and the snow is blowing horizontal, traffic is at a crawl anyways; you just want that extra layer of safety the rest of 'normal' snow/ice. I would rather have these than all-seasons any day during the winter - no questions asked! I do know it's the tire of choice for Porsche to use on their own cars during winter press events. If the price is right, get them; I would.

Well I have the 21” rims. I’m not going to use my 20” rims anymore and these tires need to get replaced that’s why I’m not sure if to stick with all season or go with winter tires.

If you don't want a dedicated set of winter tires, and considering you're in the Northeast, you might want to look into these. I'd definitely go with all-weather tires over all-season tires.
