should i sell the fx ? need some advice

I have a Subaru with real-time MPG, learned lots of tricks to keep a car sipping. Still, sometimes you've gotta let it gulp. :)

EDIT: almost forgot, I keep the climate control on Auto with A/C "off" as much as possible.

Is the MPG readout in the FX pretty accurate?

His A/C is on most of the time since he lives in Florida.

My step-bro had a s2000 and that thing ROCKED! Unbelievably light car, just wayyy tooo small! Reminded me of my aunts Miata...whatever you feel comfortable with go with it man!! I was thinking about selling my FX for a Z convertible but no more coupes until i get an Aston! :tonguey:

Something is wrong, you're getting killed on MPG. I get between 16-22 in my 45. Do you have a heavy foot? Tire pressure should be 35PSI. Are you using premium gas? That actually makes about a 4MPG difference in my 45. Covers the higher price and then some, plus is noticeably faster with premium. Change your plugs, refine your tire pressure, fill with fresh premium, and try to drive a little more conservatively, see what that gets you. Doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the car, it's fast and fun to drive. But a lot of people (and I was like this when I was younger) are either hard on the gas pedal, or hard on the brake pedal. Drive like grandpa sometimes, and like a bat out of hell other times. Most of what kills MPG is bad driving practice.

I agreee... I was getting around 13 mpg for a while! but I drove with with a cement boot until I racked up 3 speeding tix in 2 months! Getting about 16-18 now! (drivin 2 mph so everybody sees me! haha)

In some of your post, you contradict yourself. I personally say stay with the FX. Does the gf have a vehicle aswell? If so, perhaps you can take turns using her ride? Or maybe invest into a nice sedan. Good luck with your eventual decision.

It's all about how you look at it. You are 19 and are absolutely going to own a few cars in your life. Pretty much everybody I know that goes out to buy a car gets what makes sense for them. At this point in your life, does the FX make sense? Can you afford the gas and associated upkeep - does the cost stop you from doing other things? How important is the car's space/size?

You could NOT sell the FX and instead go drop $2000 on a used Miata and ride that thing all over the place while the FX chills out in the garage. Which, BTW is almost exactly what I did (Except my FX isn't chillin, it's in the shop). But the Miata (or any two-seater) has also been teaching me another whole dimension of what the FX really is. The Miata is fun to drive, especially with mods. But IMO the FX is just as fun and a ton more comfortable. I've been in a lot of cars and the FX just has a classy, comfortable, well laid out... everything.

If you have to sell the FX, there's no reason you can't get another one in the future. She's in your blood now, bro. :wink (2):

get a beater

if you can get a little 4 cylinder for your daily driver and let the fx sit. by the time you trade in the fx and finance something else it may not be worth it. think it through, and good luck.

like a 318ti ;) or a miata, or a 240. or something sporty and along those lines lol

If you are having second thoughts and seek input from others, then dont do it. I'm sure there is a way to make ends meet. Regrets are a b!tch...

thoughts

I had a similar issue when I got rid of my 05 Legacy GT. It was a fun sporty car and I was afraid I would miss that with the FX. My opinion after owning the FX is it is a very sporty ride and still pretty fun to drive and I can stuff all my snowboarding, Biking and wake boarding stuff in it without a problem. If you are into any type of sports or anything I would give that a good thought, cause now after having the FX I think it would be hard to get into something much smaller. Hope it helps a little, good luck!

With that gas mileage, there is something wrong. You may even want to think about selling and getting another FX. I'd assume that in the last 2 years, there are some other FX options you wish you had. This might be a good opportunity to trade up to something (FX-wise) new, better optioned, different color, whatever. Take what you learned and grow on that.
Don't go backwards. Always strive to improve yourself.
I like the idea of keeping the FX and getting an ecomony commuter. But, I don't know what your parking and storage situation is.
If you must sell- How about an Acura NSX? Better gas mileage and a stronger image than S2000, IMO.

What'd you say? Sorry, I was drooling over your chopper. I'll trade you my soul, it's got low miles...

it aint really worth having 2 cars with the insurance of the second car i could just keep the fx n deal with the gas . and i aint gona finance an s2000 imma buy it cash. my fx was paid cash . i hate those monthly bills . lol . this decision is sooo hard !! i dont know what to do

yeaa i hate regretting shit . thats the worse .

sounds like you have a problem, as for the FX Im assuming most of the driving is on street... cause that MPG is really low. I hope you all the best no matter

How much do you expect to save with S2000?

Let's see some numbers

selling price for the FX
purchase price for the S2000
monthly gas comparison
mods for the S2000
etc.

If you don't crunch the numbers... deep down inside you just want a S2000.

i could get a s2000 and have some cash left over . n as far as gas its a big difference compared to the fx . i put 20 bucks in the fx n it gives me only a lil more than quarter and that goes out in a day of driving . i put 20 in an s2k and im driving for about a week and giving me a lil more than half a tank . as far as mods i dont think il be modding it much just basic stuff that ive done for the fx .

Luxury, space and ride comfort will go... S2000 comes performance all the way.. If you won't miss any of the first things I mentioned go ahead and sell it..
