Road Trippin' America

Agree with shadow on I-5 route. We drove it jut the last fall. Took 101/hwy1 to LA and I-5 back (because of time as well). When traveling through Montana and Dakota there is really not much to see so don't expect to spend time much time there.

Come stop by MD Meme, I got you. World Famous MD crabcakes!!

Don't know yet if I am going to be up that way, if so I will definitely let you know.

Make sure you're here on a weekend. We'll roll you in the line on some of the best driving roads

I will of course be there one weekend. I'd love to go on a great cruise with your crew.

Let me know when you come through San Francisco. I'm down to meet up and grab a bite to eat with you. We can cruise through the city and take photos as well.

Sounds good. Been dying to take pictures in San Fran since I was there as a kid. So many great locations.

Shift over to the coast route between San Francisco and SoCal. Highway 1 is a must drive, but you'll likely add a day of travel for the proper experience.

I-5 also completely sucks between SF and LA. The concept of not sitting in the left lane is lost on most folk there.

The I-5 after Santa Clarita to Los Banos is very straight and boring. I have driven it many times and even watched a guy fall asleep driving, he drove about 50ft off the road woke up and went back on the freeway like nothing ever happened.

Yep. I drove I-5 from SF to LA last July. All can say is Boring.

Lol I saw this comment coming, as many others have said the same thing. I used to do the trip down to cali often as I have some family in both vegas, and all over in LA. So I've done both routes.

I will likely switch over to the coast route, just not sure whether to switch over that way after portland, and drive through the oregon coast as well, or just continue through the I5 and switch over to HWY 1 after san fran. Time will be a consideration, so I will have to see.

I am in Charlotte and love FX's. Look me up and we can take pics or grab lunch. My wife is also a photographer and she would love some shots. The only event that you may hit in Charlotte is Cars and Coffee. Lots of cool Nissans and Infiniti's and its the first Saturday every month. Just let me know.

Hmm that could line up quite nicely depending on when I leave miami. Good information, I will definitely look into this.

Hit me up when you are in Cali bro, I can prob meet you up depending on the day and time.

I will definitely hit you up.

you're driving all that way and skipping over a ton of good cities to visit. Come to NYC ;)

I was in NYC in September. As much as I would love to go there again, its pretty far out of my main trajectory. Never know though. If I can make it happen I will hit you up for sure.

I'll be following. would love to run into u on your way

Likewise, I will be putting together a much more complete plan by the end of january, and I will make sure that I have a thread (this one likely), where I will keep ya'll appraised of my progress.

On the east coast, maybe add some time and cut over closer to the coast and go through DC and NYC. Atlanta isn't bad (my hometown), Charlotte is kind of small. But it seems like it would be a waste to go all the way to the east coast and skip 2 of the biggest cities with actual history and culture. Atlanta and Charlotte could literally be any city in the US.

I know what you mean, about going all that way and then missing a couple of the best stops. I will definitely take that into consideration.

Cool, didn't expect much either, but I gotta get back home somehow. lol. Thanks for confirming that, I will likely just bee-line it home after Chicago.

Thanks for all love guys, I will keep everyone in mind for stops along the way. I love my :iS: family.

Any more info on car shows, meets, cruises, anything really, keep me in mind.

Gonna be touching base with Zebra personally, as he is now located in one of my biggest stops, recently did the drive from Chi Town to Miami, and I am generally thrilled to try and meet him.

Gonna reach out to iMotion as well, see if I can meet up with him when I get to Texas.

i would get on the coast sometime after Salem,OR (via HWY20). Before that there isn't really much coast driving. The road is usually a few miles from the water. Also if you take that route all the way to LA expect to spend 3 nights somewhere. When we went down we got on HWY101 in WA, spent a night in Coos Bay, Fort Bragg, and Monterey.

If you're stopping over in Austin in mid-March, beware of the South-by-Southwest festival. It can be a ton of fun (1,200+ bands playing every conceivable venue in town back to back over the course of a short week), but it also means hotel rooms will be very hard to come by.
