Remove That Spare Tire

What are some methods you all are taking since you no longer have a spare? Since my run-flats are basically gone in the rear, I am getting new tires, and not run-flats. However, my rear looks nothing like that, and I have no room for a spare. One option I am considering is to keep one of my 17" Z wheels in the back with a tire on there for emergencies, if I can find a tire that fits. I usually am only a few miles from home/dealership. But I do occasionally drive farther distances, and who knows what will happen with college in 8 months.

No Spare???? I would get one, two many problems if something goes wrong while everthing is closed.

Well I can't just get a spare. As I stated, my cargo area does not look like that, and I do not have room for a spare, unless it is on top of everything. That is why I am looking into the 17" Z rim, with a 255/65/17 tire.

I hear you, and I think its only got to happen to you once...lol. Come outside from the club, mall, etc and you've got a flat. Not getting a flat where your TPMS can warn you...lol. Trust me its not a good feeling.

what do you mean your cargo area doesnt look like that? all FX's look the same, unless you did some modding

For starters, I have 2 hatches and not one. One part is about as wide as the rear, but a foot deep. second part is same width, and the rest of the depth of the cargo area. Under the second hatch is my sub box and the jack, etc.

I don't want to get a flat, but I don't want to buy run flat tires again. That is why I am looking into getting a spare wheel, but I don't want the spare that you guys have, since it won't fit.

Exactly! There isn't room for a spare unless it is as big as the sub box. On the little tag where it lists tire sizes, it says spares: none.

Wow that's interesting.. Didn't know about it.. The 06 changes didn't include that for sure. I think they added the mocha interior, ipod interface & (it looks like) the double compartment starting 07.

When I was shopping for my 06 I saw the option for the run flats and extra cargo space. I think that may have been the first year it was offered.

My main pet peeve is the space saver spare we have otherwise. I know having a full size spare takes up lots more room and adds weight, but I really dislike the idea of the doughnut back there. :p

Does anyone have pic of the '07+ with the spare then? Maybe I could get one to fit in there.
The 06-08 looks the same as the 03-05. Just like the pictures in the first post by Krayzie.

Stu, your other option could be switching out your storage compartments in the cargo area to the standard one. Maybe one of the guys who took out their spare is willing to swap with you.

Will just told me about this thread, because I was removing various things and weighing them for the track tomorrow. I ended up getting an 18" EX wheel with a tire on it as my spare and just leave it in the back. It weighs about 65 lbs, and the tools are about 10 lbs. Also, the rear seat backs weigh 55 lbs, and the bottoms weigh 20 lbs. I'll have 150 less lbs when I go tomorrow.

^^ dont eat breakfast and goto #2 before the race lol .. .that will save you about ~5# lol

I removed my spare once at the track, just left it at the pit. it made no noticeable difference, but the parts you listed may.

let us know what happens.

Question, does anyone know what that black rectangular tool is? Was looking through spare compartment today and noticed that was missing. Thanks in advance!
