Mine does not lock if the key is in the vehicle. It knows when it's there. And the only thing I don't like about the system is the led remote. It's too Damn sensitive! It's always doing stuff on its own and there's no way to lock it. So i just use the phone app to remote start or my factory key fob. Works like a charm from anywhere. I also have another non led remote that came with it that I really don't use at all. But it's really nice looking.

Mine doesn't lock when the key is in the car either just because of the same reason....this is default by Infiniti and the remote system should not be overriding this piece.
Also...
UOT, you and most users have complaints with the led remote being too sensitive. It is, but my dealer gave it to me programmed so that you have to hit two keys on it to "unlock" it.
There is a way to lock it. It's in the installer menu or you can look it up online somewhere I remember finding it once. You do a certain sequence and then the remote locks. And then for me to unlock it I press the function key then unlock AND THEN I can remote start it, unlock, whatever, and then it relocks automatically I think in 20 seconds or 10 I can't remember now.
There is no way I'd be able to deal with that led remote without being locked. I'll hit it with my keys and stuff. You can unlock or remote start your car by accident! Locking your remote is a MUST and your dealer should had done that on day 1. You can do it yourself however if you find the instructions online. Those same instructions also program how long the car will be on before it automatically turns off....you can change that through your led remote....like 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, etc.
I never use the phone app. Why drag the phone out of your pocket and wait for it to come up, get signal, etc. I just reach in my pocket, unlock it, and remote start it.
