Remember that new grill idea?

I'm pretty sure that an 03-5 design can be modified a little to mount to the 06+ design..., the actual opening is the same, the mounting holes for the factory clips are in a different location, but the upper header mount is still the same... I'm pretty sure it could work. are these grille shells going to be available soon or is this a one off modified piece? I like it & something like that would make me consider it over building my own from scratch, as my final goal was very similar to what you've come up with anyway.

I really dig this grille. Makes the FX look more aggressive. Are you guys talking about this as being curved with the bumper??

Still looks good but I think the mouth is still a bit too big.
See that's where I think the ProDrive was flawed. The 'mouth' was too small and it took alot away from our more aggressive front end with the bigger grill... I wouldn't want it to be like an RX330 or somethin.

+1 thats what i thought was off looking on the prodrive. this one looks like a more refined version.

Yes Gill that's the curve I was referring to.

I agree it does look alot better then the original pro drive grill. But still feels like something is a bit off or missing.

They did a pretty good job without having a FX in front of them to work with. The edges are rolled pretty close to the stock lines, any more rolled and it might look out of place.

They did a great job. I like your innovative mind, & looking forward to seeing the final piece.

I think the grill looks great and much better than the factory one. What is going on with that xB in the background in the pics?

The xB is a Pioneer car. Getting a bunch of stuff done to it, the enclosures being made are pretty nice. Very oem and integrated.

I had a bunch of the interior plastics repainted. I had weird spots of DG on black. I didn't really like it when we got it done. Felt like I cheapened up the interior, gloss black plastics where there's black suede looks and feels much better. Also gifted myself dynaudio speakers for xmas. :tinysmile_classes_t

I'm going to try to spray paint my grille insert chrome or silver instead of the flat black I currently have. I either get "wow, that's a nice grille" or "wow, looks like a fish with it's mouth open" type comment.

Have you thought of a different color mesh grille rookie? I'm thinking the silver/chrome will make it not look like a "hole."

Too cold outside for me to experiment now though. I also have a NISMO emblem I'm going to try putting on, similar to what prodrive did with their prodrive emblem. Either way I'm like both grilles.

My order for the plastic automesh is shipping soon. I was thinking of hacking up a street scenes grille I have in the garage but it's already painted black. Unpainted mesh could be cool.

Rookie, have you thought of mounting a mesh grill sorta like how Mercedes mounts their grills on the bottom of section of the 2005 C230 sport (AMG) models? The mesh is set behind, but it sorta comes out towards the opening, not like how prodrive's grill is just in the back. This way, you can bring the mesh more towards the edge of the car, similar to the old grill... but a little set back.

I know what you're talking about how it has a roll to it along the opening, just can't find a good picture of it. Might be difficult to get an even roll and taper to the corners of the grille.

It seems like it was machine pressed for MB, of course. I've done it to the nose panel on my 300ZX, but with a thinner type of mesh so it was easier to bend. I know the material you wanna work with would be more like the mesh grills available at stillen or something... Its gotta be able to hide the frame/wiring/horns and all that stuff behind the grill.
