From the look and feel of these new genuine Nissan plugs I can see why so many people have trouble removing them from the diff. Made from pot metal and installed into a diff made from much higher quality alloy. This causes dissimilar metal contact corrosion. The cheap plug degrades over time simply because it's anodic while the diff case is cathodic.
So you have the plug corroding throughout the threads and the exterior then the metal is too soft to be removed without stripping.
Obviously a thick layer of anti-sieze on the threads would be helpful.
So now I have to drill out a hole in my drain plug and drive in an easy-out bit just to remove the plug. Probably will need a torch, too.
This is horse shit.
