From the look and feel of these new genuine Nissan plugs I can see why so many people have trouble removing them from the diff. Made from pot metal and installed into a diff made from much higher quality alloy. This causes dissimilar metal contact corrosion. The cheap plug degrades over time simply because it's anodic while the diff case is cathodic.

So you have the plug corroding throughout the threads and the exterior then the metal is too soft to be removed without stripping.

Obviously a thick layer of anti-sieze on the threads would be helpful.

So now I have to drill out a hole in my drain plug and drive in an easy-out bit just to remove the plug. Probably will need a torch, too.

This is horse shit.

Took the 45 to a local lube shop who I trust. Technician hammered in a hex bit and actually got the drain plug out. I was shocked and thankful. I pre-loaded my new plugs with a healthy dose of anti-sieze before I went.

Tech filled the diff with Amsoil Severe Gear oil in the easy pack. Probably the best gear oil on the planet.

Charge for the service was $65. Cheap considering I could not free the drain plug.

Rear end is now silent.

Money well spent.
