radar detector

they plan on being open till may 21... last weekend it was 60degrees which is hecka warm for snowboarding... icy hardpack in the early am but it turned to a nice manageable slush (kind of like a soft powder... not mtn high slush) by 10. they have an 8foot base still... 90 percent open (stay away from the backside) we stuck to chair 9 (can you say new high speed 6) its still decent enough to board but its really about skiing in a tshirt, cheap drinks, and working on your tan in a lawn chair at the bar...
starting april 21 you can get hotel n ticket for 110 a nite so ill prolly be back up there...
 
you could also always try a plea bargain for a defective vehicle or something like that if you dont think that your going to in by fighting it. Im sure you may have mods so just blame it on new suspension or something like that or bigger tires and show a receipt. Could work. If your in the military, you could always just show up in uniform....worked for me in San Bernardino while I was there. Got out of a 85 in a 65 just cuz the traffic court judge likes military people.

I was traveling in Walnut today (listen up Ken:bigsmile:) on La Puente Rd WB and I just happen to have 2 radar detectors in my car (Bel rx65 and generic one from costco). I was comparing the sensitivity between them. I sped up to pass a van that rode his brakes. Then as I made my turn onto Lemon, I get pulled over by a Sheriff. He said I was doing about 60 mph but his laser pick me doing 60 and climbing. (I thought to myself, what BS, I didn't hear a squeak my the detectors. Then he ask for my license and just told me to slow down next time. thanks officer. . . I sped off .j/k

Lesson learned: Just because they said they clocked you on there radar/laser , it doesn't mean they actually did. I always wanted to ask to see the radar reading.
 
You should keep a copy of NWA's CD in the car so when they pull you over you can play that one famous song for them......:eek:

well, for one thing... consider yourself lucky. Any time a cop gives you a warning instead of a ticket, you're lucky. A couple weeks ago, I got a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.... I was simply going around the corner to pickup some food. I soooooooo thought I was going to get a warning, but NOPE. My understanding is, it's going to be around $80-$90:mad:

And 2nd, in case you didn't know... laser IS a lot harder to detect for any brand of radar detector. Laser shoots out a beam that's only about 3 feet in diameter... if that. They ususally aim it your grill or headlights (shiny parts), which is why they have to hold the device up to their face and aim it like a gun. IF your R.D. is placed on your windshield rather high... it lessens the chance of detection (which is why I've been reluctant to get that Mike's Mount cuz it sits higher).

and 3rd... if it's the winding/curvy part of Lemon... all the locals know it's a speed trap. It's so stupid that around Walnut there's a bunch of streets where the limit is 50mph, when it really should be 40 maybe 45 at most... and then there's that part of Lemon that's 35mph.... I honestly think they did that on purpose just so they can write up tickets to bring in revenue to the city...

I have never had a front plate on any of my vehicles..... It's just not right to kill the look of the front end. I would rather pay the ticket..... Only have gotten one in my life and that was from a meter maid in santa monica...... I guess he was bored.

lol, meter maids seem to always have a chip on their shoulders... maybe they're bitter because they failed police academy or something...

anyways, a cop using laser will usually (if not always) aim at either your front plate, grill, or one of the headlights... in other words, shiney/reflective parts... it only shoots out a beam that's about 3 feet in diameter... which is why it's harder for radar detectors to pick up. If you don't have a front plate, you've already lessened the chance of a ticket... Thanks to Humberto, my headlight housing is blacked out for aesthetic reasons... but it also helps being detected... I do have a front plate, but I wrapped it with clear 3M duct tape, thus making it less reflective (I learned that little trick from a radar detector forum), I just need black out out or gun metal my grill...

these things done will NOT make you "stealth"... but it buys you more time to react, notice the cop, and/or more chance of your radar detector to pick up the laser.

btw, highway patrol crusers rarely use laser because in order to use laser, the person operating it has to hold it and aim it ke a gun... and I may be wrong but the laser can't be moving... most "chippies" are still on ka band.

First off.... Meter maids bitter???? NO WAY!!!! They have it all man... They drive around a 3 wheeled cart.... Go carts at least have 4 wheels and they get to wear a badge and mark peoples tires all day.

Secondly.... DUCKDAPE!!!!! Ok i have to see a pic of this.
 
I would definately recommend the V1, I have had it for about 2 years now, and it performs like it is still new. Plus if V1 ever updates their software of you feel the detector is not detecting, you send it back with a 75 dollar check and they take care of it for you. That seems like a good deal to me.
 
I've had my V1 for a while too. Have been through most of the states west of the mississippi, and have yet to be pulled over solo. Been pulled over when we were in a pack and I was the only one with a detector though. :(

Tapping my brakes to alert whoever is following me only works if that person is paying attention. LOL. All the guys that go on the road trips know to slow down when I slow down. :)
