Pulstar Spark Plugs

I read an article about these spark plugs in one of the tuner magazines (Modified? - most recent issue) and it has been dyno proven to add approximately 10HP and 8TQ on VQ35DE. Yes, specifically for the the FX35 and other same engine platforms.

How hard would it be to change spark plugs? Labor intensive? I think this might be a good cheap mod to do, since it has been dyno proven.

For real? or just a tornado thing.
Need a re-flash afterwards?

I guess the debate now begins

It was actually an article in the magazine. I got bored and I grabbed that magazine from Pepboys when I went to purchase cleaning products. I don't have the magazine in front of me, but I'm sure the magazine was called Modified. It had a white WRX hatchback on the cover.

The magazine claimed that changing the spark plugs to these pulsestar plugs was one of the most cost effective modifications out there. Go check it out at your local magazine stand.

they look like they have built a tiny discharge capacitor into the plug itself... interesting... I think the only reason to see so much gain is if the oe ign is sub par to begin with though...

How hard will it be to replace spark plugs? Quite a bit of labor involved or technical knowledge of engine???

I read about the add in the motortrend mag. I usually don't buy into adds like that, but after doing a search on google, I noticed chatter in other forums....yet in those forums was just chat, nobody actually used them.

i think you see gains with new spark plugs if your old ones are old and worn out...itll look like you are gaining HP but you are just really going back to what you're supposed to be at.

Those plugs work BUT, the 10 hp gain is not accurate. actually i believe it has abot 5hp gain throughout the power band? then there is a spike at higher rpm that caused the 10 hp gain. so in reality we should estimate around a 5 hp gain all around. also it does smooth out the power band so thats a plus. i can be wrong! just going off my memory! Please correct me if im wrong!

The pulstar plugs is a new technology that has a discharge capacitor built in like turbocad6 said!

I would probably rec. replacing when its time to replace. if i remember correctly on my 350z, must remove plenum to reach plugs? not sure its been a while!

just installed in my 45 and have gained 2 mpg in city. my mpg went from 14 to 16 and i drive pretty hard. I have an open end air filter on stock intake. i figure they will take about 6 months to pay for themselves. looking for more on highway .:laugh:

Revival of old thread....

I'm about to change my stock plugs. These have been of interest, and have seen them dyno'd on Horsepower TV. DSports magazine gave the VQDE engine +5.7 hp with a top at 11hp. That was with changing the stock plugs with new ngk plat, dynoing, replacing them with these, dynoing, and then putting the ngk's back in and redynoing again.

I remember when the Splitfire plugs first came out, I tried them and they ran way too hot causing carbon deposits....wondering if this does the same thing?

Has anyone else tried these. I mean for $150 for +5hp and 3lbs of torque is pretty darn good...besides the increase in gas mileage.

Shoot I just paid $600 for an exhaust that might have got me 2hp and made me lose gas mileage.

great question!! i was going to ask the samebut i'm still trying to figure out how to input new threads/post. but havent figured it out yet.

There was a good thread on my350z.com on these. Some said that they caused irregular stalls and the engine run like crap. I'd keep safe and use NGKs instead.

Did a bunch a research since I posted about 3 hours ago.....

I guess my Mazda6club had a group buy which I missed...I think I'm glad I did...It was a great deal..$98.27 shipped for a V6...$70.83 shipped for a 4 banger...great group buy....now for the resuts...this is after reading 8 pages of customer testimony from the Mazda6club.com

Almost all members say that their Idle turned super smooth. And power was more smoothly delivered.

Now the problem. These are made poorly. I guess the insulator is very weak causing it to crack in half. There needs to be a v2 or v3 to get these to where they need to be in the market place. When they were first put in, 95% of the people loved them...but they lasted approx 2 months or had a lot of failures around 4k miles.

Other problems witnessed:
-Some had hesitation problems
-More than 50% LOST gas mileage
-They are not coming in properly gapped....80% had to regap their plugs. Pulstar didn't seem to know where to gap the plugs...telling the Mazda 6 crowd they should be at .040..then when members complained about lost power and had hesitation problems...oh they should be .044.....funny isn't this where they recommend OUR engines?? and to find out, they recommend .040 to ALOT of other cars.

This post pretty much sums it up:

"Bad news... I checked on the plugs today and found out 5 plugs are broken!! Just like many people reported before about these plugs broke in half... Damn im pissed.. Thank god for the rubber coil that held everything in place.. When i pull the rubber coil up from the hole, half of the plug stucked inside the rubber coil... and the same happened for 4 other plugs..

Put back my old stock plugs and waiting for replacement to come.. Wonder how long will the new set last"
