Plasti Dip Stock 20s

The problem that can happen with powder coating is that the rim will bend when the powdercoat is baked in a oven.
This heat input "might" cause the rim to bend and then you have to get it straigtned up again.

I think soon i will do my 20" stocks with plasti dip, can't go wrong and if so or fed up you can always remove it again.
I like this matte finish, sporty look!

Chances of the rim actually bending (or disfiguring because it melts) are almost non existent due to the fact that the temp is just not high enough. Unless something falls on it when it's baking. There are some theories of the rim becoming structurally weaker because of it being exposed to heat though. But again these are just theories.

agree with you, 400 degrees required for baking isn't a enough to bend the rims.

I saw someone with plasti dipped window trim today, and I really didn't care for the look and texture after finally seeing it in person. Looks kind of on the cheap side in my opinion. I think having it painted gloss black at a reputable body shop would look better.

Its is not bad I just choose not to use it for something on the car, it is better to either get it done or just paint it yourself with some real paint, the texture is just not consistent for me, I tried it on some trim pieces and it is just not the same. I like it on the front grill but other areas not so sure.

i had the same issue where it was good at one place and very spotty at others. i tried again with better results but still not satisfactory. the flat nature of plastidip is very discouraging. i even bought and used plastidip clear coat but that made NO difference at all.

I like it because of the fact that you can take it off later, but I just think it is one of those things anybody can tell it is plastic dip and not flat paint, it just not that consistant enough for my likings, mainly because I do not know how to use it; I rather get something that looks a little less flat and pernament. I think on the wheels and grills and maybe emblems is fine if you have a lease but, what I did I just bought some trim pieces off ebay for cheap and spray painted my original ones.

I peeled mine off the extra 2 center caps today

My wheels had a smooth finish. wouldnt know if it was flat when dry though i put 2 other colors on top of it-but it came out evenly

Any more pictures?

Did you paint the entire wheels, or just the fronts? What about overspray?

Would a black coat, then a clear coat on top of the plasti-dip work to give it some shine?

Can you sand a thick coat of plasti-dip to make it smooth?

My pics were all from iphone so they suck-
fronts of the wheels didnt paint the back

i used cards to keep paint off of tires (they were not on my car)

i did a metallic silver then gloss black and it is very shiny

i would not try to sand it but that is just me

i am taking the plati dip off today or saturday to do a permanent paint job with rustoleum bedliner

I did see the pics of the bedlinnered rims that were posted earlier and they looked good in the pics, but just my opinion I have used spray can bed liner and roll in bedliners on my old minitruck and from my experience the sun will fade the bedliner spray and your wheels will look like an old BBQ...Also Im not framiliar with the rustolem brand of bedliner but most bedliner in a can is not smooth like paint it has a texture to it.

redoing it today actually

ive used the rustoleum bed liner before love the color/texture--

i love the look of the plasti dip but its not super durable as expected

they use tire shine on the bedliner a huge plus just spray it on wheels and tires--cant beat that for ease of use
