Ordering my '10 FX this weekend! (Got a question)

Greetings!

I'm finally placing my order for a 2010 FX35 with the Technology Package! I've been hoping an '09 would turn up with the options I wanted but the closest match was about 500 miles away in Mojave Copper. In fact, the only '09's matching my options were almost 1800 miles away in San Francisco! I must say I'm glad I waited because the new features(fixes) of the 2010 just sweeten the deal.

Before I place my order, I'd like to get everyone's feedback. Is the AWD worth it? I'm looking for two things here. I'm a Camaro owner and I'm hoping the AWD would help reduce the incessant slippage on hard starts when on wet roads(or is this even an issue with its V6 and additional weight)? More often would be hard starts on dry pavement and performance would be a factor. Is AWD really a huge hit to performance?

While we're on the subject of the 2010, has anyone found any pictures of the new "Aerodynamic Kit"

Black Obsidian FX35 (RWD/AWD to be determined)
Graphite Leather with Black Laquer inserts
Premium Package
Deluxe Touring Package
Navigation Package
Technology Package
Illuminated Kick Plates
Impact Sensors
Dealer will powdercoat rims black
Dealer will paint chrome trim on doors black


For those curious, here's my background:
I started with a '93 short-bed S-10 and was fairly active in the sport truck scene. We did a pretty thorough rebuild of the truck including a pretty well-built 4.3L V6 engine swap (Cam,Heads,Pistons,Headers,Manifold,TBI,Chip). The truck was a torque monster and would break the tires loose going into third. Unfortunately it wasn't very well suited for stop-and-go traffic and ended up selling it in 2001 for a new Camaro Z28. I've driven this car to present and it served as a great daily driver. Unfortunately it just doesn't have the carrying capability or trailer towing abilities that I need now that my wife and I own a house. The FX fits exactly the niche I'm looking for.

For those curious, my wife drives a Black '09 G37 Coupe. Her car came from the dealer with black powdercoated rims and dark tint. The look of her car sold me on the look I want for mine.

I'm an avid car enthusiast but my real expertise is in computers. I manage a Data Center for an Application Service Provider in Dallas and am responsible for the overall health and operations of about 300 servers that provide various services to nearly 3000 users. I've worked as far down as a Cashier at CompUSA and previous positions include Hardware Tech, Programmer, Network Administrator in the legal field prior to my current job. I've held an actual job (not just messing around) in the computer industry since I was old enough to work and been involved with computers since the late 80's.
 
Get RWD no need for AWD unless used in snow. Were you considering sport package maybe to get the bigger rims? They'll look better bigger once powdercoated! Welcome and Good luck!

I'd love to get the sport package if offered but according to Infiniti's website, it's not an option on the 2010's. Now, the 20's come with the Deluxe Touring package. I'm hoping they look good in black. It's supposedly a new design for 2010 similar to the one below

O ok didnt realize they did away with the sport package? I dunno if that was such a good idea on their part but i guess there just trying to group the packages together to get more money out of them!?!?!

maybe they will bring it back in 2011 or 2012 and have the smoked grille, head lights and tail lights. They didn't bring out the sport package till 2005 on the 1st gen.

You can still get the Sport package if you go with an FX50 but at nearly $15K more for the base I just couldn't justify it.
I am looking at $55K for the FX35 vs $65K for the FX50 configured and while I'd love a V8, I have a house to remodel.
 
I figured they still had it for the 50 (FX50S) Get the V8 it'll be worth it in the long run! Besides you prob cant make a 35 faster than a 50 w/o FI

It's incredibly tempting but the invoice price on an FX50 is only about $5k below sticker so it would be pretty tough to get them to come down to where I want. But I guess crazier things have happened. We got my wife's G37 just under invoice and managed to get them to throw in $800 in service as well!

If they can get an FX50 the way I want it out of the 60's I guess they might have a sale. I'm not usually so tight on an issue like that but $10k is a new bathroom (and my wife knows this)
 
Ok, and I gotta say this. I learned quite a bit test driving all sorts of vehicles trying to pin down exactly what I was really looking for

I had a few criteria
1) If I go to Home Depot and need to haul 3 5-gallon buckets of paint home, will it fit?
2) Can at least 4 people ride comfortably (My Camaro had room for 2 in the back, provided they had no shins
3) Navigation, no exceptions
4) My mother can't look more at home driving it than I do
5) Can't be slow (not fast is acceptable, but can't be slow)

Chevy Tahoe
Close. Good price, 6L V8 available but 1) It's HUGE and 2) It's a $50K+ Chevrolet. I own a Chevy and know what happens when they hit 100,000 miles; everything starts to make noises. I don't want to spend $50K on something that rattles after 4 years.

Cadillac Escalade
I just couldn't get past the fact that it's still a Tahoe at heart. They have made great progress in the years to differentiate it from its Chevy counterpart but you still look around and see GM parts-bin items which reminds me it's still a fancy Tahoe.

Cadillac SRX
Go ahead and laugh, but this was the closest competitor to the FX35 I could find. The 2010 is a completely different animal from its 2009 predecessor. The default engine is a normally aspirated V6 putting out a ho-hum 265hp but the available Turbo powerplant (borrowed from SAAB) bumps it up to 300hp with a nice tansmission that makes the car fairly fun to drive. They shortened the design by dropping the 3rd row of seats so the car actually look like something I'd want to drive. Still... 300hp is what the FX35 puts out and doesn't require a turbo. I plan on driving this vehicle at least 100,000 miles and want the engine to last. And while the new SRX looks better, the FX still beats it in terms of looks and features.

Audi Q5
SLOW. I couldn't be more unimpressed its performance. It would be a serious contender but I play out the scenario of "Oh crap! I pulled out into an intersection when I should have waited". You literally sit there and wait for the Q5 to get up to speed. I asked the salesperson at the dealer if there was an upgraded engine available and they said no. If they offered Audi's 4.2L V8 that's available in the A5, they'd really have a nice vehicle.

Porsche Cayenne
I love this car! I test drove the GTS which is the normally aspirated V8 with preferred options. It puts out over 400hp, has all the features I want and looks awesome. BUT, it's $72,000 base!

Infiniti EX
Looks and rides just like a 4-door G37. The inside is plenty roomy but when riding in a friend's Escalade, I saw just how small they were on the outside from a large vehicle's perspective. I need something a little more prominent on the highway.

Infiniti FX
What can I say? It's Japanese so I'll pretty much drive it until I'm tired of looking at it. Mileage is at least 20mpg highway. Seats 4 or 5, can pull a light trailer. Striking looks like no other SUV. I'm a sucker for tech and this has it all! I'm already familiar with Infiniti's NAV from my wife's car and have been more than pleased with build quality and dealer service.

Awesome, so that means you're pretty much set on the FX now? The good news is the design will probably be around for a while. It took 6 years to go from 1st gen to 2nd.

Oh and the sport package has been around since the 2003 model came out! You're confusing dark chrome grill, head lights and tail lights with what the sport package really is...
