Oil Burning Under Hard Acceleration

Hi everybody. I know it's a common problem for our FX45's to consume oil. Lately when I am passing, or on the gas hard for whatever reason, I am noticing a oil burning smell coming through my vents... Has anyone experienced this themselves and brought it in to get diagnosed? I am curious what the shops have been saying it is? Just oil getting through the valve seals, burning on the engine, and creeping through the vents? I am not smelling anything under normal use.

I switched to Royal Purple about 3k miles ago, and have noticed less overall consumption, but am still at just under a quart per 1,000...

Let me know any thoughts, or if anyone has fixed this short of replacing head gaskets, the block, etc. Thanks!

Just my own opinion. But when the piston rings are worn. Sometimes adding half a quart of lucas oil stabilizer at oil change helps slow down the consumption. Also check for a stuck open pcv valve

If you can smell it through the vents.. wouldn't that be towards the back of the engine.. possibly a crankshaft/camshaft o-ring leak..?

MAy just be oil that spilled on the engine from last fill, and since you're accelerating the smoke smell is coming to you...

Dang FX and their oil consumption.

I have the exact problem when I accelerate hard after I am already going at a speed above 50. I havent noticed any oil leaking, but I havent thoroughly examined all the areas around the engine, if you figure out anything let me know.

If you smell oil in your vents, it's an oil leak or spilled oil. Valve seals or anything like that would result in smoke coming out of your exhaust and a smell at idle maybe if the wind was right. Something is burning in your engine bay if you smell it while moving.

Same here. If I whomp on it, I can see hot clear exhaust in the air through the rear view mirror. (unless it's road debris kicking up)

Here's a recent thread on the subject for you to cross reference.
FX45 - Eating oil/ dropping in new long block

I'd sure like to find out the true culprit too! How many miles do you have?
Thanks for that! I did read that thread a little bit too, and yeah I think I would be willing to do about anything short of engine replacement and block rebuilding! haha I have about 116k miles right now, and yes, same issue with seeing that nice little cloud in the rear view after getting on it. Followed by that nice smell of burnt oil from the bay via the vents... I have to imagine that a small amount is shooting out of the block somewhere and burning off on the engine near the air vents... I just can't place where, or really feel like paying someone to find out, then telling me its going to cost a grand or more to fix!

I dont think its spilled oil from the last fill because that would be present all of the time until it burns off... this case is ONLY under hard acceleration over 4k RPM's...
