Nissan / Infiniti 5AT Transmission Drain and Fill

Stupid Duper Soonster checking in, who needs my help and where are the ratchet set?
 
Just been told by the dealership that on the 2008 infiniti fx35 transmission fluid changed to metic s because its a more universal fluid. is this correct? dont want to have the service done if they are useing the wrong stuff...
 
Matic S replaces Matic J and is fully backwards compatible. It's just fully synthetic vs. a blend. Really any JASO 1 compatible fluid is fine. I'm running Mobil1 and no issues.
 
I have a question for you guys. I wanna do the drain and fill today after work so I am looking to buy tranny fluid. I want to know how much fluid I need for this? I don't wanna buy too much and have it sit there for ages. This stuff isn't that cheap here, it's about 25$ a quart.

Buy 6 quarts. You will likely use between 5 and 6

yes I was planning to get the transfer case done as well. I just don't know if I should get 10L, or 5L for tranny and a quart for the transfer case.

When I did it I ordered 6 qts and it was just enough for both...the transfer case took about 1.5 qts

6 quarts for everything, or 6 for transmission and 1.5 for transfer so 7-8 total?

I went to walmart and they didn't have any fluid at all in store even tho site says they do so now i have to buy castrol at 10$/quart or mobil 1 at 15$/quart

It was 6 qts total....I just filled what I had drained out and measured and it was about 4.5 qts. You are just draining and refilling not a complete flush.
Maybe get 7 to be on the safe side...I did use every last drop I had.

thanks for the guide. drained and filled about 4qt in my 158k 03 35 AWD. to add to the thread, I used matic-J compatible castrol transmax (the price was right) 100 miles ago and have had no issues. shifting is indeed smoother, manumatic is a bit more responsive.
