Greetings. I recently bought a fx35 for my wife. I also own a 06 mustang gt and consider myself a gear head. Now for my mustang i cant put a after market intake in the car without and Tune. My question is. Do i need a tune/chip with a Stillen CAI w/ Z-tube intake? If not are there tunes/chips out there that would enhance its porformance? Thanks guys. Anything helpful is awsome.

you dont need a tune, and there are no "chips" for our vehicle (like you mustangs guys have)

If you install the stillen ztube kit, youll be fine without a tune.

welcome to the complicated world of modding an FX....
(complicated compared to stangs)

We get ECU flashes for the most part. You can get tuned regardless of any mods, though the bolt ons do add some to the mix. You can tune a stock VQ for added power & drivability. Everyone should do it

by tune you mean ECU reflash?

I recently had my FX dyno tuned - using the OBD II port, UpRev software, a computer and a dynomometer, the FX was baselined at a shop. Then the A/F maps and cam timing are adjusted only where needed across the power band to correct lean/rich conditions.

ECU flashes are pre-set deals that don't even require your car. Technosquare can do it both ways - either send in your ECU for a flash or take your car there for a dyno tune. If you are bone stock, sending in the ECU is probably the easiest thing to do. If you have aftermarket mods & bolt ons, then a dyno tune is the only thing that is going to take advantage of those changes fully. You can make improvements with an ECU flash, but every car is different and really needs to be evaluated as a system.

Here's my thread on it:

///8682

I'd recommend this to anybody, just like GTO said. However - if you know you will be modding, then do the tune after completing any mods to aspiration (intake, plenum, exhaust).

actually, a reflash and a tune are different, you can reflash without tuning...

What the?!
ACTUALLY, If you're not tuning, what would be the point of a reflash? . . . Oh ya . . you could reflash so that you could like, maybe add a 55mph speed limiter :err:

exactly, you can simply reflash it just to remove limiters.

^no, he means a tune
Fine, I get your point.
So lemme ask you. How do you know what I mean?
The dude wants better performance, so ya, get a reflash . . & while you're at it, remove the limiters. Not like limiters have much to do with any power gains.

Only limiter you can remove that helps is the throttle body limiter at WOT. After the tune it can only 100% as opposed to not 100% at WOT before the flash.

But that kind of limiter mod is on the 'tuning' part. Acc. to JB, I wasnt referring to that, lol

I'm psychic, duh. All im saying is that TUNING and A REFLASH are different.

I thought you can just reflash the ECU to allow full opening, as opposed to tuning where you go throughout the RPM to affect what the engine parameters are doing? I didn't really read what you guys were talking about earlier, so maybe I answered what you needed just now.

tun·ing v.tr.
    1. Music. To put into proper pitch: tuned the violin.
    2. Archaic. To utter musically; sing.
  • To adopt or adjust, especially in order to bring into harmony.
  • Electronics.
    1. To adjust (a receiver) to a desired frequency.
    2. To adjust (a circuit) so as to make it resonant with a given input signal.
  • To adjust (an engine, for example) for maximum usability or performance.

The term "reflash" is slang for the act of overwriting software. Therefore, if your "reflash" changes anything at all, it is considered "tuning".

Well thank you. Through the mist of everything posted, I think I understand alittle better. Thank you all. See yah around

Soo, if you send your ecu to technosquare they just adjust it based on the mods you have and take off limiters? But if you bring it to a shop that has UPREV they will adjust the ecu based on the dynos readings and mods you have? With basic bolt-on mods would it make more sense to bring the car to be dyno tuned, or send your ecu to technosquare. Which one costs more?

JB - when your car was on that dyno was it getting tuned, or just seeing how much horsepower you have. You sent your ECU to technosquare right, and then the dyno said you were still running lean?

GTO - Did you go to technosquare to have it tuned on a dyno or did you just give them your ecu?

answer to your first paragraph is: Yes. If you can get to an AWD dyno that can tune it for you based on dyno and mods it may be better for some of it, but apparently technosquare can do things to the ecu adjustments that no piggy back system can do.... buying an EMS and tuning is more expensive than just the technosquare...

and yes, I sent it to technosquare, then hit a dyno to see the hp...I was running lean.
