New FX50 owner, signing on...

Honestly, I didn't like the new styling at all. But after a bunch of us went to the launch party and got to test drive it. I'm all for it. Kinda regret i didn't wait. You should show up at our next meet. Most likely be the first 2nd gen FX from here to join us. Just don't let some of the members here drive your car (like me). We'll destroy the breaks.

Cool, will do. It looks like there was a meet a few days ago and I missed it. I'll start visiting the socal regional section more regularly so I can... move away from my own n00b thread!

I think the entire experience with the FX50 can be summed up by a conversation I had w/ a (300M srt8) owner this morning at a starbucks in Manhattan Beach. He came up while I was feeding the meter and the dialogue went something like this:

Him: "Now that's a strange looking ride. I've seen those mini-SUVs all over the place. Long hood, though; what's it got under it? The exhaust growl is reminiscent of mine."
Me: "FX, these things have been around for a little while now, second generation. v8 390/369"
Him: "390 on something that small? Oh. Forget what it looks like, then. Nice ride"

His compliment was cool, given that srt8 owners probably don't need to be complimenting anyone given their 425/420 6.1 hemis! (And I didn't hear the similarity in exhaust growls, his ride sounded like a Fountain boat engine. But I took the compliment anyway.) I've never driven a 300 so I'm not sure what those are about, other than specs.

welcome to the Scene..

The 5.0 is a beast.. Almost pulled the tigger about 3 months ago.. Just not ready for it yet..

But the 50s is the way to go..

Congrats on the purchase and hope to see you at the meets.

The 50 is the way to go... but what if you like modding? I wonder which will have the bigger market.. The 35-37 or 50? What other cars share the 5.0 engine?

I -think- (and this is just my opinion) that the new generation FX will follow the trends of the previous: The 3.5L (or soon, the 3.7L) will have better aftermarket support for modding than the 4.5L (or now, 5.0L). For some of us (like myself), it doesn't matter as I'm more a fan of 'soft' mods: Tint, wheels, stereo/AV, brakes. Maybe exhaust. But for folks who are into the hard/engine perf mods, I think the 3.5/3.7 will be the way to go, especially since the 3.7 will have already been on the G coupe for a year.

I'd like to think that the 5.0L in the FX50 is slightly detuned from what it could optimally be. (For example, could it crank out 415hp/380tq in an M50?). So perhaps there will eventually be chip changes or something that will allow us to realize those gains? Just postulizing, I'm not sure. Right now in terms of perf it seems like the FX is the brand's flagship. Is that really the long-term plan? (Not an M50? Q50? G sport edition w/ a 5.0L engine, etc???)

Ah it's fun to dream...
