New FX35 Owner w/problems

I just bought a 2005 FX35 last Thursday with 16,000 miles on it. The car is stunning to look at. After doing my research, I thought I was getting a good deal for the money. I paid $20,000 for the car. It is Liquid Copper with Brick colored leather interior with the Sport package and satellite radio. I did buy it off of the lot of a Ford Dealership in town.

I get the car home and Friday I start it up and a big cloud of blue tinged smoke comes out of the tailpipe. I did not notice this at all when I test drove the car or i would have stayed away. As luck woulf have it, this is also the w/e when I am out of town for the week.

I did call the dealer right away to alert him of the problem. The car does come with the dealerships full refund warranty for 7 days (which they exteneded for me since I am out of town), It also has the remainder of the original full factory warranty until October 2009, plus the powertrain warranty as well.

My question is just how bad of a problem can this potentially be? I have read everything from need ing a new engine due to bad pistons, rings, valves, etc... to a stuck PCV valve or overfilled oil resevoir.

I really like this car and would prefer to keep it if it can be repaired. The smoke from the tailpipe is pretty consistent under stop/start acceleration so i know it is not a 1 time event.

Does anyone here have experience with dealing with Infiniti directly on warranty issues? Will it make a difference in that I am not the original owner of the car?

Thanks in advance for any help you all can offer.

Do you have all the service records that would show if the problem has been noticed before?

Unfortunately the answer is no. The car was originally bought at auction prior to be sold to me. It does have a clean CarFax report so it does not appear that it was an Infiniti buy-back car.

I know gsu_dy had his engine replaced because of something like that. I will look for that thread.

A new engine would definately ease my worries. I was thinking along the same lines since the car is still under warranty. Thanks for searching for that thread.

This has most of the info in terms of issues that he noticed and what was causing them.

Welcome, and good luck with the problem you're having. Warranty should take care of any problems your FX may have.
