You only need one, there is one hanger for the mid-pipe. It's because the mid-pipe hits the W brace (for side impact). Pierce and others have used extra hangers under the mid-pipe. That can be "clean" as well if welded nicely.

There is only one other place where the hanger is the same in the rear section. Not necessary but I bought a pack of two so I just used it.

You have it exactly right. I think for the price, it was cheap to buy two due to shipping. So I bought the two pack.

There are two exhaust hangers that are exactly the same size as the polyurethane ones. The others are different sizes.

I used lithium grease to get them through the hole, as you can imagine polyurethane has almost no give, which is perfect to stiffen it up. The other hangers give the exhaust flexibility, in addition to the flex joints on the y pipe so you're fine.

Nismo also has a stiffer exhaust hanger, but it's still rubber.

actually what will happen if I dont change the hanger?

Two total hangers.

All you need to use is one hanger.

You can try not to use the hanger, and see if the midpipe hits the w brace.
 
cool, so one hanger is enough.

I will just buy the ebay hanger and replace the mid-pipe hanger, coz I hate metal jiggling sound if the mid-pipe hit the W brace!:mad:

just wanted to update everyone. i got my OEM gaskets in today, and left work early to install them. Its going to be crappy for the rest of the week and its going in on sunday night for service next week so i didn't have much choice. first though.....the OEM gaskets are 1000 times nicer than the ones that came with the y-pipe. They're obviously made to much higher standards. I took my pipe off, and the gaskets that were included in the kit came off in two pieces, even though they went on in one piece. My leak was in between the edge of the pipe and the bolt holes. There was a charred spot that made it really obvious. Perhaps if i had been a bit more careful during initial install this could have been avoided. However, i knew where the problem area was, so i made sure to have real good contact with the new gasket in this spot. Put everything back together and it sounds great. no more annoying fart noise when i pull up the driveway.

The soapy water tip is a good one to find an exhaust leak. Another thing you might try is to light a match and hold it near the exhaust joints. If any are leaking, the flame will flicker or even blow out. If you do find an exhaust leak at one of the joints and you can't get rid of it by tightening the bolts, you might try adding a second gasket on top of the first one and see if that stops the leak. Was that the only modification you did to your Maxima, changing to having a Y-Pipe?

The Y-pipe only is a piece of metal that combines the exhaust from each header. The Kakumei has two flex pipes too. So don't see how it can make you fail a smog test. It's not "filtering" anything nor does the OEM one.
