My K-Sport BBK Is Here

Thought I post a follow up after a week worth of driving. The brakes work really well. The initial engagement is sensitive. The new pedal feel takes a little getting use to. During the learning process I tend to brake harder than is needed. This is evident from passenger head snapping forward. I have notice I don't need to brake as early. I can engage the brakes at a closer distance from the stopping point.

I drove a long distance in the rain yesterday, and did notice the brake pads seem to get stuck on the rotors. I came to a stop with my foot on the brakes. When the light turned green, I let go of the pedal and hear a thud as the car started to move forward. I'm assuming it's the pads on the rotors. There is just the initial thud, then it's normal. I have only noticed this in the rain and with the brake pedal pressed for a longer period during the stop. Never happened when riding the brakes, short stop at a stop sign, or during dry weather.

Also, holy brake dust batman! I have never noticed brake dust from the OEM pads. The K-sport kit produces a health amount of dust. Not sure if other brands of pads will produce less, but I'll give it a try when these are gone. Over all, I'm very pleased. The kit seems to be well built, good quality. The price is extremely competitive. Knock on wood, but if something goes wrong down the road I'll let you guys know.

were they full ceramic pads or semi metalic, ceramics should give minimum break dust like oems

the normal street pads ARE ceramic, they do produce more dust than normal OEM brakes. I would recommend treating your wheels with a repellent for easy wipe off.. or we also sell a race pad which is more money. I'm sure there are some other brands you could use.

Glad to see you like the brakes, they look great.

If anyone is interested in a 13" front BBK with orange calipers, give Evan a ring. He has a set for $1499 shipped.

HI AIRVTEC!

Great looking ride, she's a beauty! Nice color for the caliper too.
I own a e53 X5 and I did some searching regarding the Ksports. I bought a 14" kit but I have yet to install. Hope that you can answer some questions.

How do you like the Ksports so far?
Did you have any problems bedding them in?
What other pads could you use for low dust ( i got the street pads) I read above but just asking if you have any idea.
Any other rotors available other then the ones Ksport offer?

I would appreciate your help, I know the rides are different but its the same product in terms of the BBK kit. Thanks & Cheers!

Hi dpgx5,
Sorry for the late reply. I think for the money, you can't beat them. However, I do have some gripes. I didn't like the stock pads, so I changed them to Ferodo DS2500 both front and rear. The stock pads just didn't do the job. It also started squeaking. K Sport will tell you Ferodo's part number for the front is FRP3054 with 18mm thickness. This is incorrect. I learned the hard way. You want FRP3076 with 17mm thickness. The pads made a huge difference. I would highly recommend changing out the stock pads. As for low dust, Ferodo isn't it. The dust is definitely noticeable, but the performance out weighs the dust. My anodized orange color has started to fade. This is due to my own fault. I sprayed brake cleaner on it, and never wiped it off. After awhile, I noticed the fade. So, be careful of the chemical you get on the anodized color. I might end up removing the anodize layer and then use caliper paint. I haven't looked into rotor options, but it looks like we can use parts from AP Racing. Here is a link to their international site http://www.k-sportracing.com/technical2.html. It has some info on parts.

Hey :) thanks for the reply! I have found some other info from the UK regarding pads to use. Here is the company I found www . carbotech-europe.com Im going with the bobcat pads there good for street and less dust. I heard the street pads that come wtih ksport are garbage so to hear that from yourself doesnt sound weird at all. So overall your happy with the kit? I just didnt wanna dish out so much for a Brembo kit but i know pads make a huge difference so I would upgrade to the ones I mentioned. Thanks again for your time. Cheers

I believe he said you will need at least 15 or 20mm spacers. He does not have stock rims, but I doubt they will clear them without spacers.

dpgx5: definitely change out the stock pads. Let me know how the bobcats pads work out. If they are low dust with good performance, then I'll try them next time. But yeah, I'm happy with these K sports.

ocal21 & money042: drew855 is right. I don't have stock wheels, so I can't say. My Klass wheels will clear the BBK (front and back) without spacers. Unfortunately, I don't know the offset to my wheels. I have 15mm spacers to bring out the wheels, so they look flush, not for clearance issues. If anyone of you are close by me, feel free to come by and we can try on your stock wheels on my car to see if they clear.

I just ordered the G2 caliper paint. They will custom match your car color with their high temp epoxy paint for additional fee. This is the route I went. I should receive the kit in couple of weeks. I'll post some pictures of the paint job.

Hey, I will let you know about the pads btw they are 17mmm by 152mm i think. I will check my email for any updates on this forum and hopefully get back to you in time. Looking forward to the new pics with new paint. I suppose maybe rim/wheel cleaner is a no-no too? Maybe I will just get a spray bottle with soap n water and just spray on and let it sit for a bit prior to washing the wheel/brake area on my X. Thanks again! Cheers.

Hey, I have some good news for you, if you want low dust, EBC has pads (red stuff) which is what im leaning towards... great bite, with no dust... how are these pads working out in the rain? still sticking? appreciate your update so far... cheers/

Hey, if you got a minute, looking for some updates. Do you still rock the KSport? How are they holding up? Could I trouble you to repost the pics? Looks like the links are dead. Thanks!
