Motordyne Spacer - Feedback

+1 forgot to mention that ... some members have over torque the bolts and broke them during install.

recheck torque specs with a torque wrench but do not tighten unless needed, these bolts break easily. If you do not have a leak or vacuum problems you probably are fine.

If you don't have a lot of Climate change, you are probably fine. If you have leak, you will hear a Hissing noise coming out of your plenum.

It is extremely important that you do not over tighten the bolts. I misread the instructions and used Foot/lbs torque wrench instead of Inch/lbs. I noticed this when the ranch would not click. So I read the instructions again and caught my mistake. When I unscrewed the bolts, I noticed that I had stretched the bolts by a good 1/8 of an inch. Luckily they did not break. I had to drive 45min to motordyne on a Sunday to pickup new bolts. Tony was nice enough to let me pick them up, since they are not readily available even though dealership. And I spent another 3 hours trying to locate the wrench.

don't attempt to try the install unless you have all the necessary items it calls for. One you get started, you cannot use your car until you're done.

I was talking to a mechanic. He said spacers mostly make the engine growl louder, but really don't do much else. Any feedback on this?

Better fire your mechanic, buddy. Look at the Dynos......lemme see if I can find one.

Or you can take a look at my Dyno Sheet..........but I have other goodies on mine.
As many members have said, The plenum spacer is the best mod as far as $$$ goes.
Not one member here has said anything that is questionable.

ya, change your mechanic.

Any breathing mod, will make your car "growl" loader. Because the engine noise is coming out of the intake rather from the exhaust.

Any spacer you use will increase the available air on top of the cylinder head therefore make the engine breath better. This will increase the power.

For those of us who have tried this, we can attest to it.

He was probably thinking about throttle body spacers, not plenum spacers. Plus, the plenum spacer is better on our engines because it gets rid of a limitation in the design.. Don't always believe mechanics. Research & read real experiences and believe that.. Regular mechanics (not the performance shop ones) will be experienced on problems but they won't be experienced on performance as they don't see it that much.

This is what I was hoping to hear. The mechanic is not my mechanic and I'm listen to end users here. But if there are negative side effects, I hoped that gets discussed as well. Thanks!

PS, My goal is trying to get better gas mileage and as an added benefit more power. So far I'm averaging 1.5 mpg better after installing the Stillen CAI. I'm hoping the plenum spacer will give me similar results.

I believe I lost a little bit of mileage when I installed my spacer, but I'm not sure.. Might be the result of aggressive driving.. You'll get better mileage from lowering and exhaust than you'll get from cai & spacer.

The spacer doesn't have any side effects as long as you install it properly and installation is not that hard. It's time consuming first time and you have to know (read) what to look at and be careful but it's definitely not hard..

I have an 1/2" spacer in mine.
I think its the best mod to do on our cars.
You feel the difference right away.
On mine you feel it pull a lot harder than stock around the 4k RPM range.
Best bang for the buck mod in my opinion.

I have a question. The sites I've perused do not list MD spacers for the FX. Will the spacer for the G35 fit? thx.

they used to list the FX seperately on their site, but now it seems to only be Z, G, and M. as long as its for the VQ35DE, not the HR engine, then it should fit.

I lost some mpg's after install, it gave me a heavy right foot....You will love the growl in makes, and it's harder to stay off the pedal.

When my wife drives it, she gets about the same mileage as before...not a noticeable diff in mpg's with a spacer install. BUT there is a huge diff in get-up-and-go.

This should be any VQ engines first upgrade.....definately worth every penny.
