Mod Recommendations

Hello everyone! First post here. I just bought my wife a 2012 FX35 AWD last weekend. It's not my cup of tea, but she loves it. She commented yesterday that it is not as quick as she liked and requires more throttle to get up and go than she is used to(You have to understand that she came from a 5 second 0-60,mid 13s in th 1/4, 3,300lb, slightly moded Genesis Coupe GT 3.8L). I think it may also stem from the fact that my 5,800lb, 4 door, 4x4 with 33' aggressive off road tires, twin turbo-ed, custom tuned 3.5L Ford truck smoked her at every light and on the freeway coming home from the dealer which of course never happened in her old vehicle. I drove the car and felt what she meant. I had to mash the throttle at least 15-20% before the car would normally accelerate. That same amount of throttle in her old car and my truck would get you going faster than normal. WOT was good with the power I was expecting form a slightly over 300hp engine. Both her and I may be expecting too much compared to what we previously have driven. I know a lot of it has to be the way Infiniti has tuned the DBW system in these vehicles. Any who, does anybody know of any good mods to give this SUV a little better throttle response without having to FI the engine? I know the usual intake, but from what company. Exhaust is out of the question because she likes the factory sound and from the readings I have taken, the factory exhaust does not have a lot of back pressure with very go flow through. Also, is there are any tuners available besides the Bully Dog? I am not fond of Bully Dog as they are a joke in the truck scene with very little of the promised gains on the dyno. Thanks in advance guys.

The 50s is exactly what you needed. You should have test drove both

+1 to the above. If you just bought it take it to back to the dealer and ask to trade up to a 50, you will be more than pleased with the performance.

Keep the FX35, drive it safely on our streets and put together a nice track car with her. The Hyundai might have been a good fit.

Sounded like you two have not even taken a drive on it before signing on the dotted line. You're comparing apple to orange! Given what was stated, the FX50 will fit your driving style!

Sorry, I didn't test drive anything or do any research, she did. I just went along for the ride and pulled out the check book when it came time to pay on what ever made her happy. She loves the car and I don't think her gripe was so much the quickness because it has plenty of power. Her only complaint is that the throttle feels spongy and less responsive at low speeds or when accelerating normally compared to the instant power feeling of the throttle in her old sports car. I spoke with my custom tuner that has done some of my previous vehicles and he said that what I am referring to has less to do with the power output of the vehicle and more to do with how the DBW(Drive By Wire) throttle is calibrated from the factory. The only thing that would fix the issue is to either get a custom tune to to calibrate the throttle and shifting to my wife's liking or give it a couple of weeks and she will get used to the way it is now. He told me that he does not tune Infiniti's, but he will go through the channels to see who does. Does anyone know if any FX35 custom tuners? If there aren't any then I will give it a couple weeks for her to adjust.

so u abused the car right fron the start? what happen to the so called "break in process"?

We bought it used. The car was a certified used car with 13,000 miles that was a lease car for 8 months. Trust me, I would not have let her do that if it were not broke in yet. As long as it has good oil(which I checked before leaving the dealer) and is at operating temp, then let her rip IMO.

You can always do a uprev tune but it won't do much without any other mods
