mirrors

jbaker has mercedes s550 mirror signals. these are not really available to buy as a ready to go solution but are more of a custom aplication. I'm putting a thread up detailing how to do this mod here: ///4883
it is not complete yet, but I will finish it in the next few days as I complete another set of these...

as far as a direct bolt on, there are other types available on ebay that are more direct fit with less modifications necissary to the end user...

alright, I guess I'd like an opinion on my mirrors, just to see what others thought. I was not 100% satisfied with the cut seems of all of the mirrors I've done, not that there bad at all really, but also very difficult to really get 100% flawless too, none to date have been absolutely flawless. I decided that I wanted mine to be as flawless as I could make them, & I decided to try to do a set that are seamless. I grafted the light to the housing & completely eliminated the seem all together, so these lights are actually under the paint, just a clear window for the light itself. I'm not sure if I really like them or not, I mean they do look good, but then I look at them & something just doesn't look right to me either. not sure what it is really, maybe it just looks funny cause there is no seem? maybe it looks funny to me just because it doesn't look factory? not to sure... (I never finished that how-to for these because I winded up doing this instead, but next regular set I do I'll complete the how to for these...)

these are completely smooth with no edge at all, all one piece. I'm thinking of maybe trying to go over them with an opaque tint of my body color, then the lights would be invisible until there turned on, but then the light would shine through the paint, might look good, but then again not to sure of that either, I mean you will still see the lump/bump of them even when there off, & I don't want o cut the light output too much, cause these are really bright & functional as-is...

thoughts? I'm really not sure if I like them or hate them...

I think I would actually like a little edge to the lights myself as it makes it stand out a bit more. But that is one nice piece of work to get it seamless like that John!

Is it the new Mazdas that have the slits for mirror signals? It seems a little too hidden. I like the exposed edges of the others you have done.

my turn signal mirrors are starting to get a little condensation in them so i think im going to give the turbo ones a shot.

EDIT: misread dates and confused threads - i have the template.

here is the link for the lenses if anyone else is interested in these:

no hurry cuz i haven't even ordered the lenses yet. luckily though, i kept my oe housings and in a safe place. i found them while looking for something else the other day lol.

The ones you installed for me are still fine, no condensation. They have turned yellow (the plastic), but bought this:

and they look brand new and are shiny and crystal clear now. Just thought I'd share, obviously won't fix your condensation issue...

hey guys new question..ive been searching autogator.com for a side view mirror becuase I dont feel like paying 6bills to get a new one put on. However one of their searching option asks if your car has intelligent key. Now im not sure I do, I meani have keyless start and key free unlock, but i can see where the mirrors come into play here. I dont see them dancing when i unlock the car lol.

Any suggestions or will any 03-08 mirror fit, I dont want to buy one and have the wiring not match up.

the ikey has multipla antennas, including one in each mirror. there are differences through the years in these antennas, some cars have them some don't, so there are several different mirror assemblies for the fx in general...

OK, just want to put up a few pictures of the inner cuts necessary for this mirror install. just did my first set the way I would have always preferred, which is to cut & then finesse the cut to perfect & then repaint the cover. doing the cuts while preserving the existing finish is a compromise to save the cost of repainting, but def makes for a perfect fit over what can be done with just cutting.

this is what needs to be removed...

then this support stud needs the top portion of it removed for clearance... it's still strong enough like this but don't cut all the way through it of course....

should be shaved to look like this....

then clean up the outside line... it should go right up to the cast line you'll see there....

I'll put up the way to install the covers themselves in a bit...

hey do you happen to have a step by step instructions on how to install the led mirrors? i just got mine but the instruction that came with it arent that good.

thanks in advance

don't have full instructions for wiring but there is a thread you can find with a search that has the wiring & stuff...

this template has been missing for months in my old laptop that broke. few guys have asked for this but I couldn't get at it, finally got the laptop up & running again & found the final template. the template is purposely made slightly smaller than the opening you'll need & the lower line is a bit exaggeratedly curved up & pointed a bit more than you'll need & will need to be filed a bit past these lower lines to open it up to the correct opening. this is the best way to do it & is how I do it, cut it to this template, then test fit & keep fitting to a perfect fit by keep filing the edges with a medium file to almost there, then a fine file till it's as good as you can get it, then a final 400 sand to really smooth the edge & brush the whole edge with a touchup brush...

if you concentrate on keeping your edges straight & your curves smooth & not overcutting anything it's possible to get a really nice fit even with covers already painted, but it takes a lot of patience
