ls2 engine swap?

would the driving characteristics of the fx change with either one of the swap choices??...i love the way the fx take turns... so would the ability to take the turn hurt in anyway???

ok, heres the deal. 2 solutions, both worked out mostly & just waiting for a yes or no on either one...

first, I got a KILLER deal on a killer lsX smallblock with best of everything, aftermarket block, twin turbo setup, motec, complete with many goodies, at least 25K in this setup, I can get it for $8,000... that's a steal, the accessories alone are worth more than that... have to ship it cross country though. I know the guy personally & I know the story behind it... this is a great deal... this would push my total budget up a bit though, cause I'd still need tranny & other stuff unknown, the 2 tiny intercoolers they used would have to be replaced & much of the plumbing & maybe even the headers would have to be redone...

second is a 3k mile 07 titan drivetrain, motor tranny & transfer case, almost brand new, for $3,650... no ecu available for it though, still finding out how much harness is left there... delivered to my door through the lkq network, no shipping or delivery issues or charges.

what road do I go down... damn, I don't know... right now I think the sane thing is the titan motor... the affordable thing is the titan motor, but damn, that vette setup would be totally off the hook... damn.... this is a tough call... someone talk me into sanity here:confused: I still need to get at least a visual on the titan tranny setup... without the titan tranny setup it's only like $2,500 for the 3k mile 5.6L which should work directly to the fx tranny...

Does the titan and fx use the same tranny? Would it be just a swap?

Thats a great price for the motor and tranny! My first opinion still stands....stay with the titan. Would be easier and quicker to accomplish, relatively that is. I think you will run into alot of unforseen hurdles with the vette engine.

don't know anything about the titan tranny yet but I would not expect it to just bolt in

overall handling would not be severly affected, basicly it'll handle like a 45 over a 35 with the titan swap, it'll handle better with the vette engine it's all aluminum, & 4wd weight would be gone, then the turbo's add a bit...

overall it will still handle like it does now, no significant effect one way or rthe other, an fx 45 handles well still... not a major factor there really...

i say wait till all your opions come in then pull the trigger there is alot of time and effort thats going into this project and the last thing you need is a set back..

I'd say go with the Titan set up John. Still good power, with option to add more power down the road, a lot less headache and labor, less unknowns. But if you want something insane...the choice is clear =), just my .02.

I got further details, first, the titan motor not only is missing the ecu, but it is also mising much of the harness & a few accessories, the tranny is not going to fit without major stuff, & this could still turn into a project.

the vette motor turns out it's actually 850hp+... it is a great deal for a killer engine, unfortunatley it may be a bit TOO radical, & I know that I'll blow the rearend up like it was made out of wood, I think I'd be taking the fx down a road I really don't want to go down....

botom line is, as bad as I want to do something, I'm just enjoying the fx way to much to risk it winding up being like several of my other projects, half done & shoved in a corner... I don't think it's wise for me to do this right now, the stock drivetrain only just hit 60K & it still has a bit of life left in her, today in 7" of snow I was having a blast... just picturing it as a RWD huge hp monster I realize how much I'd be sacrificing, still a great idea & still something I will probably do a bit down the road, but I'm going to hold off a bit & plan a swap maybe a year, year & a half down the road.... after everything else I want to do is done... there is a lot of other things I want to do.

as a temporary fix I think I'm going to wind up buying shady's SC, I don't know if I would be happy with that as a final gameplan, but as a temporary fix it sits well with me & I can live with that... who knows, maybe I'll even be happy enough to settle there for a good while... & I won't be sacrificing nearly as much as the other options would force. that's a weekend project really

more than likely I'll bump this thread up one day in the future as a continuation, that'll be when I have a new drivetrain in hand & am ready to do something significant, till then the procharger will still give me a bit of satisfaction I guess... thank you for sharing my thought processes so far and sorry to have wasted your time reading this thread to begin with:laugh::laugh::laugh:

dropping that titan 5.6L engine in a 45 would be almost easy, it's more of a challenge going there from a 35, I really think the 45 could swap out this motor & still use ALL of the 45 control & harnesses even, the 5.6L should be able to be a pretty close swap for the 4.5L, if any 45ers want a great deal on a 3K mile 5.6L 07 motor for $2,500 lmk, it's a really good deal, be nice if someone could take advantage of it at least... in a 45 the swap makes a whole lot of sense

well turbocad if you want to see the 350z w/ the lsx swap call me -- it's a personal friend of mine. vinnyten would also work on a deal with you to do some swap or engine build... i just stopped by the shop the other day and he's just swampped with fully built motors this season. i'd love to see your FX w/ a monster motor in it

thanks alot kenny, I would love to check out noah's Z, I'm watching & waiting for when & where it will be out... I'm not so much abandoning this project as much as I'm, postponing it really....

Oh I'm quite sure you'll find other things to do in the meantime. I don't know what will be next but I think we are all looking forward to it.

If my VK ever blows (even after two weeks due to the rust) then I'm coming to you for the 5.6L swap, turbo!

going for it man . i am waiting for a gtr engine are the engine of the Q50 Eau Rouge with tran that would be sick and comparability well be good for the fx
