Just want to get a feel for how long these babies are good for? My ‘05 is currently at 190K miles and I hope she’ll keep soldiering on, what year is yours and how many miles has it clocked? Any major issues?

04 FX45 with same miles like yours, 190k.
Going strong, very good compression still, tipical oil consumption for that motor - about 0.5qt every 1000mi.
Both engines, FX45 and FX35, should last over 250k miles if taken care of:
Good oil and regular changes.

My 2006 autumn copper FX45 at 210k and my (well, my wife's) blue slate 2009 FX50S at 164k both still use only 1 qt. per 5,000 mi. Only engine work has been on the FX45 to replace head gaskets at 200k. These cars are beasts and look and drive like new--have nightmares about what to do if either would need replacement.

I agree, there isn't much that can replace those cars in today's world.
I am curious on what caused the head gasket failure on the FX45 - was it the mechanical fan clutch, or user error (low/old coolant)?
The reason i ask is because the VK45 has a semi closed deck and head gasket failures are almost non existent, with proper maintanance.

Sorry for my early morning brain freeze--it was just the valve cover gaskets--obviously a much simpler and common task. They just died of old age.

So, I actually traded mine at 160K, but I don't doubt that I could have kept it running for WAY more miles. That 4.5 and the accompanying drivetrain was amazing. One of the best I've owned. The only reason I traded was because I wanted a sport-ish coupe for a change. My only gripe with my FX45 is that the lovely seats only lasted 120Kish before looking like an old car (and they could be redone). It was a great car.

My '04 FX35 AWD has about 183k and still going strong.
Had an ‘03 FX45, bought it with 57k miles on it. Was totaled by a teenager who was on his cell when he hit me and it had 215k miles. Never had any major issues, regular maintenance and changed the valve cover gaskets was the only thing I ever did to it.

2003 FX45 with 274000 miles on the odo.
Engine rebuild at 220, but didn't like it. Engine replacement at 240.

'06 FX45 at about 215K miles now. No major issues, it's still reliable, although it's finally being moved to non-daily driver status. It has had a catalyst efficiency CEL for about 8K miles now, but the most annoying issues have been the dash cracking twice (replaced under warranty once) and now the seat bottoms are cracking. Other than that it still looks new inside and out. I have no idea if it will last another 80k or another 5K. It still drives great and everything, aside from the cat(s), still works. It still uses about the same amount of oil between changes as it did when it was new. It still sometimes smokes on cold starts, just like it did 200K miles ago.

2005 fx 35 238000. Daily.just changed plugs they were burnt to ceramic i just recently purchased it.. so next would be valve covers due to oil found i last 2 cylinders above plugs.still runs strong an shifts good i do lucas treat all my cars new or old they all get oil stabilizer, trans treatment . An yes they are spoiled with royal purple .

We put 182,888 on our 2007 FX 35 AWD without much in the way of repairs: Excluding the consumables like tires, shocks, struts and batteries, we had the following go down; a coil (replaced all of them) an alternator, and the steering rack wore out at 168k (replaced at the dealership) Also, we had the dash replaced under a recall. That's it. One of, if not the best SUV / crossover I've owned, in like ever...

We hated to sell it, but the engine and trans were getting quite tired and worn out... and with over 12k in repairs looming (if we could get the parts, it would take a month to do the work), I decided to part ways with her...

Currently at 256000.an going strong. Although problems with p1273,p1283.put about 6 o2/af sensors. Melted acouple . Currently deleting cats.did injectors aneverything up top.dont know what else becides fuel pump but it riuns ok only at idle it dropps but comes back up an little sluggish off line but upper rpms runs.lime a champ.changed plugs out again

Hey gmgagne, I've been debating the FX45 vs FX50 question when I pick one up. Mind if I ask you some questions about it? I know the thread is older but I don't know of many who have both at the same time that's willing to offer some advice. Thanks!!!
