Hey, I have been visiting the Scene (but never joined) since 2008 when I purchased my first Black Obsidian FX35. About a month ago I got a 2012 Malbec Black 35 with Premium and DeluxTouring packages. What is interesting about the whole process is that I initially went in with the intention of buying a JX. I had convinced myself that I wanted something bigger and something that didn't force you to concentrate on driving so much. In other words a floatilla. After test driving the JX I was satisfied that it would easily meet my criteria for a passive cruiser, but on the way home while driving my old FX I realized I was fooling myself. The FX is a little cramped and sometimes I wished for a less firm ride but during the ride back from dealer I had to admit I loved the accerlation and handling and I couldn't give that up.

I thought about it for another day, and went back to the dealer with my mind made up that I would get a new 2012 Black Obsidian. While working out the deal, in between breaks I would check out the FX on the showroom floor and finally I had to inquire what color was I looking at; and the sales guy said it was Malbec Black with the Java interior. At the last minute I told the sales guy to change my paperwork and give me the Malbec. The Malbec black is striking and compliments the FX's uniqueness.

Before I got the Gen 2 i always thought the Gen 2's were sleeker and more contempory but overall i didn't think that it was that big of a deal. Now that I own one, I really can appreciate the exterior details that make this car even more of a stand out than the original. And as we all know, there is no contest between the interior of an 05 and a 2012. I will say that I do miss the exhaust note on the old one and like others i do find the tranny on the 2012 a liitle weird.

Congrats on your 2 nd FX and it's great you finally joined the site.

Gen 1 or 2...you can't go wrong! Congrats and welcome to iS! Malbec is a great color! :good:

Hey there.. Nice pickup on the FX.. Looks like you have a good sense about you; seeing that you picked a 2nd gen that is . Welcome to the Scene.

Thanks Guys,

I appreciate the warm welcome. To answer the question on why I didn't wait. The truth is it never occured to me given the 2012 had been aviailable for about six months that the 2013 FX37 would come out anytime soon. In hindsight I am not sure I would have waited since I got such a great deal on the 2012. Plus I was actually a little anxious about driving around in a paid for pristine 2005 FX with only 60k miles that I knew I was going to get rid of. One of the reasons I was in the market for a new car was that I wanted to make sure I got maxium resale value on the old FX and I didn't want to risk an accident or other damage to my car in the interim. It happened to me before where I held onto a car I was planning to get rid of, had a fender bender and as I result the value of my car went down 3k.

No worries about not getting the latest and greatest. Enjoy your FX and know you are in for years of fun! :good:

This is my 4th Infiniti, started with the original grilless Q45, had a G35, the 2005 FX and now the 2012. Anyway the 3rd generation FX will probably hit the streets in 2015 so it will be easier to rationalize (and justify to the wife) going from my 2012 model to a 2015 model, as opposed to a 2013 to a 2015.
