KSport BBK

Great find. So my assumption is that all you need is a spacer in the front and no spacer for the rear.

Someone with the AP Racing kit got a 15 mm spacer, but 5 or 10 *might* be fine.

---------- Post added at 04:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:31 PM ----------

Got the data sheet.

14" small 8 piston requires 35 millimeters = 1.37795276 inches to clear while brakes are cold.

*I am not responsible for fitment

I used the template and tested it on the 2003 OEM 20". It barely clears where it's going to touch the wheel spoke. If you give or take human error, I would say it's going to rub or at least for sure if the caliper expands a little.

5 mm spacer looks like it will do the job. I also tried the template and it even clears my 18" standard 5 spoke winter set, so having to get a 5 mm spacer for a small 8 piston 14" rotor is not bad at all. Probably best fitment out of the other BBKs out there.

I couldn't upload a PDF so I converted to JPEG -- and might have lost the correct ratios in doing so. So just use this as a reference.

Here is a good review:
http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=177623

A few people have asked me for feedback on the K-sport brakes I had fitted, so here goes:

Are they worth buying?: Yes

Are they well made?: Yes, they appear very well made. The kits are complete with all parts needed to fit to the car, including braided hoses front and rear, all bolts, and a choice of standard pads or DS2500 (I went for the DS2500). They felt lighter than the OE Brembos (both discs and callipers) but I didn't actually weigh them (I forgot).

Anything unusual: The grooves in the rotors appear to go backwards - they are meant to when fitted correctly. The Orange are nice but apparently on one batch of orange calipers K-sport had some discolour (mine have not) due to wheel wash acid and k-sport recommend the black colour option until they have a new batch.

Good value: Yes. A full set of 8 pot front and 6 pot rear brakes, including 2 piece grooved discs, ready to fit, is around £2000 all in. I got mine from Huss at Performance Parts Online and his price was the best I was offered, with excellent service as always, but quite a few sell these kits.

Easy to fit: Yes - I paid TGM in Fleet to do it for me so it was very easy

but the instructions are good and its an easy bit of work - but do remember to use new brake fluid (Castrol SRF is the best apparently) and to power bleed them

17" wheels or 18": They do 330mm kits for 17s and 355mm for 18s - I went for the latter.

Bedding in: used gently for a few miles. then 6 off 30% brakes, then cool off, then 6 off 100% brakes from over 100mph, then left for 3 hours to cool off. Did that work? Yes and No - they felt a little dead initially or even as though there was some air in the system, although they worked very well.... but apparently this is normal until they fully bed in. It took another 500 miles before they felt rock solid, with perfect feel which is what they have now.

What are they like now: FANTASTIC

They are very progressive with really good brake feel - no grabbiness, just linear braking. The overall braking ability is hugely better than with the OE Brembos, and as good as the Alcons and AP big brake kits - although I prefer the feel of these K-sports. Pressing really hard on the pedal can lock up the brakes, but you have to be very, very determined to do that - they just give oodles of controlled braking whenever its needed. They work perfectly when they are hot as well as when they are stone cold, AND THEY DON'T SQUEAL OR MAKE ANY NOISE AT ALL
biggrin.gif
. The balance front to rear is really good too.

I haven't yet used them on a track, but I expect the fact that with the larger surface area (discs and callipers) and what appears to be better cooling they should dissipate heat better than OE, and I expect them to be excellent.

Are they better or worse than AP or Alcon brakes?: No - just different in my opinion, but far better value. If anyone (when the weather is better) wants to do a comparison test then I'm happy to do one.

All in all I'd mark them at 100%, and would unhesitatingly recommend them.

anyone going to pull the trigger and buy a set? They quoted me $3,300 for 14" front and 14" rear (8 piston front, 6 piston rear) shipped to your door.

The guy quoted me $3,000 out the door shipped. Was that the prce from the distributor from the east coast? I want to pull the trigger on these but I am very apprehensive considering that no one has experience with these on the FX.

But the reviews are great from other communities. Did he say anything further in regards to a group buy? I may just buy the fronts first (so my GF doesn't get too pissed off about part of my "first home savings fund" going to a BBK!!)...... Maybe I can set-up a Hollywood type collision escape with her in the ride to justify the buy!!!! J/K Folks!!!!!!!!! Or am I??????:ehh:

The guy who gave me the quote was rightcoastimports for the $3,200 but I believe he mentioned there was high demand for this so the price could possibly be lower.

I would go as far as assume since the reviews are good on other forums, they will also be good on the FX. This is because their calipers, rotors etc… are all standard so they can fit more applications – it's the hardware that's different on each car to make the kit fit.

I'm guessing based on my conversations with Willwood – they said they have all the parts, just not a specific kit for the FX. They said you can just buy parts separate and a skilled mechanic can make it work. That being said, K Sport has a FX specific kit so even better – comes with all the hardware for the FX. Also, I confirmed the parking brake also work with the rear kit, so no OEM functionality is lost with the K Sport Front/Rear Kit.

$3,000 is a crazy price, post info on the seller if it's not rightcoastimports. They told me it's a discount on buying front and rears together as the rears retail for more than the fronts. Tell your girlfriend safety comes first and these brakes will help you prevent accidents.

Your post for $3,000 shipped was for 13". Chedman13 was quoted the 14" price of $3,300. In any case, did you ever pull the trigger on these? The more I look, the more interested I am.

Ok Gents,

I just spoke with the distributor and this is what he relayed to me:

  • 8 Piston Front
  • 6 Piston Rear
  • $1539 Front 13"
  • $1739 Rear 13" (Give or take)
  • $3000 for Front and Back  (Less than Brembo fronts alone)
  • $100 more for Color Change so don't worry about a limited option
  • He maybe able to work out a group by if we have enough commited and ready to buy so the above price may change
  • The guy (Evan) has them on his 240sx and he loves them and I have seen nothing but positive reviews.
Thanks for the insight on the Aluminum cast calipers!!! I don't think alot of us are tracking that often so I think the KSport will be a good addition to our rides!!

I think I will pull the trigger on this in a few weeks so think about it!!!!!

Oh Also; The actual vendor is going to link up on the scene to answer any questions that we may have which will be a good resource to turn to as well.

I guess I did my part guys!!!!!!!!

So, did you end up buying these Ksport bbk?

I upgraded my brakes from OEM to rotorpros. I installed my rotorpros more than a year ago and now I’m having the brake vibrations:mad: again at 50 to 60mph.

I’m very tempted to get the front 13”bbk in orange $1539.00 less 10% from miscrosoft cash back.

Hi guys I just wanted to clear some things up on pricing and sizes.

If you go with a 13" front you would not be able to go with a rear kit as the smallest rear ksport makes for the FX is a 14" 6 piston.

I haven't gotten an exact answer why you can't get a 13" rear but the factory will not make it.

The price of $3300 that people were being quoted was for a 14" front 13" rear, at that point no one had ordered one yet so I did not know you couldn't use a 13" rear.

The price on a 14, 14 setup is $3600 shipped, retail is 3100 on the front and 3300 on the rears, and it retains the stock handbrake.

If you have any other questions let me know. I run these brakes on my 240sx and love them. Also someone bought a setup for their FX a few months ago but I am unsure if they are on this forum.

Thanks Evan
RCI

Ok, I just pulled the trigger on this. I bought the 14" front & rears. Evan confirmed the rotors are floating rotors. I'll also be purchasing 10mm custom wheel spacers from here www.wheeladaptor.com. The site was mentioned on this thread ///5765&page=2&highlight=studs This way I won't have to use hubcentric rings on the wheels. I'll take some pictures once the kit comes in and let you guys know if they work well.

You guys know where I can buy some 40mm wheel studs?

Ok, just found out the rotors are not floating. Don't know if I'll be paying $100 extra per set to get the floating rotors. What do you guys think? What are the real benefits of having floating rotors, besides weight savings?

Hi just to clear up one more thing with the floating rotors.

The 13 and 14 inch DO NOT come with floating rotors but they are available for $100 more.

You would not need them especially on an FX i dont think you'll be doing any road racing or drifting. Although the rotors are still 2 piece. I have a picture of a 14 inch here from an FX customer, direct sunlight so its not great but decent. Also some other random pics for you.

Weight saving going from a solid rotor to a 2 piece. Floating rotor 2 piece vs fixed rotor 2 piece is about the same in weight. Just get the 2 piece fixed rotor. Floating rotor is just as it states, it floats and allows to adjust to the pad for better contact. you're just talking more pieces and more labor to replace rotors unless you really need floating rotors.

That being said, I got floating rotors for my AP kit =)
