Just found a great deal on a 2006 FX35

Hi,

I just moved to the States to study and been looking for a car as my daily driver. I won't be racing or looking for after market mods. However, I do like to floor it every now and then and enjoy the power of a car. To be honest, I never liked the FX till the last couple of months when I randomly looked at this forum and began to read more about the vehicle. Soon, it grew on me and became " a must have " SUV/cross over.

I found a 2006 FX 35 with 76K with an asking price of 18K. I checked the carfax, it has three previous owners. Now is that something I should be worried about? In addition, since it has 20 inch wheels, are snow tires a must? Since the state I'm heading to snows from oct/nov - mar/apr. Or could I just go along with the all season. I do know the advantages and disadvantages, but I really can't afford to buy a set of dedicated wheels etc.

Since it has 76K around the clock, what replacements should I be looking at? and how much do they cost.

My final question, do you think it could last for another 50K atleast? My yukon back home has about 120K and still runs strong.

Sorry if I bored you guys with all my questions, but thanks :D

06 with 76k miles is a lot! On the the average it should be between 12-15k a yr x 3 yrs and it should be around 36-45k miles.

It could be 4 years old. Check when it was first sold. 2010's are out in 2009 already. 76K is still alot for a 06.

I just got a 05 AWD with 65k for $19,200 from a dealership...only cause I traded something in

Well for so many milage you should be looking into changing the sparkplugs, your FX being driven quite alot so look into changin the rotors and brake pads. A radiator fluid flush and tranny flush would help too. And since you don't know when the oil change was done since it can be reset do that as well. Also add fuel injector cleaner and fuel system cleaner to the fuel. And that would be my advice to you.. If you can get it all at once you will feel alot of difference.

Thanks for the replies, but you guys make it sound like a no-go cause of the miles. But aren't highway miles good for the car? I'm confused..

sorry for the typo, its actually a 2005 model. I don't know if that's going to make a difference or not.

if its 2005 it should not be so bad. Still higer than avg but not extremely high. do you know a mechanic you can trust to go check out the car with you?

Welcome to iS! It's a higher mileage vehicle, but if you are fine with that, no reason to not get it. One person has put 200,000 miles on their FX with very issues. I came from a 2000 Tahoe (I see the Yukon) and I thought it was a great transition. I still wanted to be higher than most cars, but have a little more sport.

Unfortunately not, however there is a big Nissan dealer next to me. Could I bring the car over there for a pre-inspection?

How do you like the FX so far? I hope you don't miss your Tahoe

Do you roughly how much it would cost to do everything that you've mentioned? As I have heard its more expensive to maintain an infiniti than any other Japanese car brand.

Well if you are not good with doing it yourself it might be pretty spencive. I'll put a list of prices for ya.

update*

I went to test drive the car today. The car felt a bit loose if you know what I mean. I'm guessing from the normal wear and tear due to the high mileage. It's offered " as-in" and already the front passenger seat has power/electrical problems. The seat would simply not move. I mentioned that to the dealer he said thats why the price is below the market value.

In addition the breaks need replacing and the rotors too. The interior needs a lot of detailing. However, I thought you lot were exaggerating when the car was said to ride and handle like a sports car, yet it was an crossover.

So, the total asking price with sales tax etc. is 20.5K I was hoping not to spend way more than 18K, but I'm still deciding if I should go for it.

Im just worried that I might come across mechanical problems before I even purchase the warranty ( purchasing it later ) $1700 for 170K miles/7 years. Not too shabby.

PS: Love the sound of the exhaust. And this is coming from a guy that only used to appreciate the sound of a big V-8 lol

for me, that price seems a little high with the problems you've just listed and the miles, the car should not feel "loose", especially if your saying that switching from a Yukon, My 05 was listed for about $24k-25 with 39k miles on it and it only had 1 previous owner, however I got it down quite a bit with a trade in a some negotiating. The same dealership also had an 03 FX45 with about 50k on it for just over $18k.

I think if you look a little harder you will be able to find a much better deal

i totally agree with Drew man.. you should def look into getting a newer year and a different FX.. the one you are looking at right now is not worth it bro.. go online and do a search dude.. you'll will find a hell of a deal. just need to be patient.

I actually drove the Tahoe for a week or so while the FX was having work done. It was fun for what it is, but I missed alot of the stuff my FX has. Mostly the tight steering more than anything. Although I enjoyed driving over curbs instead of backing out of parking spots in the Tahoe.

Thank you all for your inputs, it was really constructive.
I decided to give the FX a pass. I agree with you that it's overpriced considering the electrical issues the car has and a few mechanical issues ( breaks and rotors ).

Unfortunately, this FX is the cheapest in my area. So, I might look into other cars instead, probably a G35X. Found a couple of good deals on them on auto trader. If that doesn't go well then I might just go for any vehicle unless anyone has some other ideas.

Thanks again :)

eBay?

I've seen quite a few good deals on eBay for FX's, but really I'd do a search for local dealer used inventory... I saw so many good ones locally w/ warranties and everything I almost considered passing on my new lease deal and just getting a used one...glad I didn't though...in the end, the '09 is f'n sweeeet! :glasses:
