Jumbo's custom turbo build

335 would be better lol. An e9x m3 would give jumbo a run for his money;)

It's either that or my 10R...that's the only quick things I drive/ride lol.
I was hoping to get a stock GT500, C63, and maybe a few terminator cobras, procharged C6s, etc to go. But it's getting hotter and everyone is starting to run slower...

Great read Jumbos...thanks for sharing so much information as you progressed through this project. Glad to hear the desired "smile factor" was attained once you got the FX back on the road!

Posting today to follow up on the car and my continuing education with my boosted FX.

I can confirm we have absolutely taken care of all vibrations and noise. Every vibration I identified, each rattle and noise was hunted down and eliminated. Most of them were in the exhaust system. The fact that I put down Dynamat inside so much of the interior has actually improved the noise levels better than OEM, I would say. Even on full boost, the car is devilishly quiet. Anybody I have given a ride says exactly that, "man - it's so quiet!". Road noise, wind noise... all better than before.

One added bonus is that I have some additional feedback to the amount of torque I am throwing into the drivetrain. Get this - when I go WOT, the force of the motor actually flexes the drivetrain/motor mounts enough to move the shifter back in my hand - maybe 3/8 of an inch. I drive with my right hand on the shifter and I can actually feel the torque I'm asking the transmission to swallow. I've started using this feedback as a way to limit how often I ask for maximum power. This is a function of acceleration so if I accelerate at the same rate for say, 10 seconds, the shifter moves back into my palm for that long. When I release the throttle or give it a little less gas, the shifter responds by moving away from me - back to it's un-torque'd position.

Finally, I have also noticed that my daily driving has seemed to smooth out. Maybe this is because of the fuel learning function or me just getting used to the car? Shifts are coming more predictably, and I'm not accidentally boosting when not meaning to. Maintaining the car's speed takes less input from me than before the turbo - it almost seems as if the motor likes to maintain it's speed for much longer now. Coasting on the highway for long distances seems to take very little throttle input.

I have also had the chance to get out to some lone open roads. I have found this car is ridiculously fast from a rolling 20mph up to 100mph. It's still fast from a stop, but I can tell that I have moved 60-70 feet before the boost really makes the motor pull beyond what I have been driving for the last 6 years. This is the only lag I have ever really been able to identify. If I am going anything over 35mph and I want to pass somebody - it's done before they can even react. Instant boost and passing like they were standing still.

I know, I know. You guys want a video. Well Jcas should be hanging with me this weekend for a show I'm entering. Bring the camera, J - I know you want to go for a ride!!!

yeah man, video video video:rofl:

I love the fact that it's quiet... I hate cars that make more noise than necessary for the power level there at.. a fast quiet car beats a loud obnoxious car any day in my book :)

Video suggestions:

1) Jcas's face during the first WOT run.
2) Standing 0-60mph, both from the cockpit (speedo/tach view) and from "standing" just behind Big Red.
3) Rolling 20-100mph, from cockpit
4) 3rd gear pull, looking at shift lever

So the only lag you found could that be related to the turbo lag.....or maybe your final gearing still being 3.3 OEM....you think....??

Ray, final gearing isn't going to effect the lag. The motor's rpms don't change because of a gear in the differential. Since a turbo is powered by the motor's exhaust, transmission and differential gear ratios are not part of the equation.

Yesterday at a meet and Jcas was nice enough to shoot four or five videos. Here are a couple:

Sweet Jeebus! Looks like she pulls quite nicely.. Did you get some outside vids; having a trail car film while it's getting spanked?
