Jumbo Gauges

The particular splitter I bought actually has one panel mount connector - so it installs exactly like OEM

The new gauge is installed on the A-pillar on the left. I wired the display units just to check routing. Everything should fit perfectly.

I installed the A-pillar and routed the wires behind the dash over to the passenger footwell which is where I plan to install the panel.

While I was down there with the driver's side lower dash panel off, I installed the OBDII splitter - this shot is before I re-attached the OEM bracket with the splitter panel mount.

It took a couple hours because I was careful routing and using zip ties so nothing vibrates. The OBDII splitter is ready to accept the PLX interface and the OEM location can be used normally. Because the PLX actively communicates with the OBDII system, you have to use the remote and select a setting that temporarily stops communication from the PLX when you want to use the OEM OBDII port. Otherwise, the PLX "assumes control" as soon as the ignition is on.

Modded A-pillar using a G35 pillar gauge pod modified to fit (cut, heat gun, plastic anchors), then the whole thing was custom wrapped in leather to make seamless. I did have to cut a hole in the back of the pillar in order to feed the connectors for the gauges through. This was the pillar from the Red car so I still have an unmolested OEM pillar for the silver car... should I ever need that.

WOW I totally missed this... seven months ago.

All the gauges are still in use and working fine in my FX. I was just playing with the OBDII multi-display yesterday.

AFR just sits there quietly doing it's thing - I rarely have anything out of the ordinary happen on that gauge but it's always there.

I think if I had it to do over again, I'd just buy a multi-gauge rather than the dedicated AFR. That way I could cycle between any of the PLX sensors installed in any combination on the two gauges. Although nothing says I can't just add another display - it doesn't need to be on the pillar since you only need 3/8" of depth for mounting.

I have just started playing with the downloadable gauge faces off the web. Custom graphics and designs are available to make the OBDII display look any way I want - including the ability to design, draw and upload my own custom faces.
