Damn! Sure bring'n a whole lotta attitude as a NEWB.
Oddly enough, they sell a million of them in record time, & pretty much evry one that has one, loves it, & finds some useful way to put it to work . . whether fun, or productive. That sure is calling a lot of people stupid, isnt it? I agree that it could have been much more from the get go, but it showcases some cool tech that will only be further realized. It's a toy now, but I really feel this sort of device is gonna be a huge form factor in the marketplace. I got it for my kid to play with, but I've already found some use for it beside the games. Mainly the email, browsing & reading the news at breakfast or just sitting out by the pool as I watch the kids swim. Those are all real things in my daily, & this thing does it rather luxury well.
How 'bout you just stop hating & move on with it.

Just a testimony as to why the device might be a perfect application. Web surfing, tunes, video, nav, gaming, perfect touch screen in vivid colors . . all in a space saving unit. Simple interface that wont cause an accident to use. WTF? What's to hate? Yeah, gotta get around the constraints of it's dimensions, but at least you're not hiding a CPU somewhere, & in addition, you might save some money not having to buy all the peripherals . . let alone have to deal with a mouse. Last I checked, no one's doing an excel sheet or setting up a PP presentation in their car. This just makes sense. Maybe the guy who actually installs a full-on PC needs some slapping. Dunno

CarPCs are traditionally operated through touch screens and front ends are loaded to simplify the interface.
You get the convenience of the easy to use interface, plus the power of a full-blown computer. You don't even have to use Windows...you can use a Mac.

wow, drama... no need for hate here, everyone is going to have different goals, desires & expectations, not to mention everyone is going to have a different outlook on what is & isn't worth a certain amount of $$$. honestly, if you take the price out of the equation, the ipad is def a cool little gadget. it is not a computer, it is not a tablet, it is not really anything other than what it is which is an ipad. hard to really compare it to anything else because there is nothing else like it. again, taking the price out of the equation it is kinda cool for what it is.
now, when you do factor in the price AND also try to compare it to other computers, THEN I can see where you can start calling out all of it's short commings compared to other computers, but, it is not a computer... if you think of it as a computer then yeah, guess there is a whole lot of room for disapointment.
far as using it as a carpc, not possible. again, it is not a pc, so it can never be a true carpc. it can be a cool car mounted media player though I guess if that's all you want. again, I still say for the amount of work it'd take to integrate it well you'd be much better of with a real pc, but if all you want is a huge ipod touch in your dash I guess this can do it. keep in mind that up until a few years ago, just a screen alone that would be usable in sunlight like this thing alone would cost several times what the whole ipad costs, I know, I've spent big $$$ on just a sunlight viewable screen in the past... check out what one guy has done on mp3car with one in his 06 sti...

It's not like I literally go around slapping Apple customers. Sure, I'd like to talk some sense into them, but in the end, if they want to waste their money, that's their thing.
Yeah, you're right. In the past, a good screen was uber-expensive. Now, though, they've dropped in price, and even though they're still a good sum of money, the ability to actually have a very capable device is worth the slight extra expense.
So, forgive me if I dislike the iPad and think it's a downright silly solution.

Okay-How cool is that set-up, guy took it into a modeling program, FDM'd it out the parts (complete with the STI logo) I would have done the hold tabs differently but its easy to pick apart some one else's design..... That s**t is tight, once the topo line are sanded out and the frame is painted it will be very cool. I think this is an excellent use for the ipad, seriously how much power do you need while driving anyway?
