iPad in the FX

idunno if id say its a total waste of money, it may be a cool toy just like the ipod touch is a kinda cool toy but it is still just a toy. when they wind up getting flash to work in the browser it might be a cool webpad for at home with wifi, great touchscreen can even see it poolside & great battery life, i guess its not bad for what it is, but there are just so many things that it is not, & if you want more than just a toy to play with look elseware. the amount of work it would take to install one of these non ghetto way would never be worth it because of its limitations i think, if your going to go through all the work then you at least should have a payoff of a much better system than youll wind up with this thing.

sent from my fx using my fx:tongue:

but then when you adding XL gps with touch screen to your non navi fx it still goes close to $300. with this you have internet, video, gps, music and all the rest. looks like easy way of doing it. whole argument of PC vs. MAC aside.

$300 is a hell of a lot cheaper than $829 for 64 GB and 3G through AT&T. Not to mention the montly data plan cost. Besides, it can't even multitask and it has no GPS chip meaning no using it for navi and watching a movie at the same time. All you get is internet, a couple movies, and your music for $829 (but only 1 at a time!).

Urgh, I see Apple's trend. The 2nd gen iPad will have GPS and all that crap then the 3rd gen will have a LED screen with a faster processor.. and a camera. I can picture it now.

its got a gps chip in the 3g version which is $129 extra. compared to some of the stuff out there i think this is a good device. as a e-book reader its the same size as a kinle DX which is $489 and all that thing does is read books. i've been looking for a decent netbook for some time and you can't buy one cheaper than $300 and thats barebones, those things will cost ya 5 billz easily. given time ya'll know they'll hack this and make it do all sorts of neat stuff...this has alot of what im looking for, a portable net browser/ebook reader/casual game device/gps...im just not down with paying $500 for a measly 16gigs of storage so maybe by the time ipad 3G-S w/ built in camera comes out is when i'll take the dive.

I think what many of you dont understand is that the Ipad (iTampon as some calls it) will sell and will sell a lot. Some analysts estimate sales between 1 and 5 million units/year. Yes, I agree what the hell do the analysts know? In any event, think of the number of people, techies who dismissed the first gen ifon for lacking what seems like basic features that's been around for years which Apple intentionally left out (camera, cut/paste, 3g etc ...) and yet it sold millions.

I think you guys overestimate how people buy things. I predict millions will fork over their hard earned cash for this device just to look cool, trendy, surf the web @Starbucks and give the appearance that they can afford the latest and greatest. I can go on and on but I think you get the point. I predict the least expensive iPad (iKotex) will sell like hotcakes. Just my 2 cents

I think apple's stock drop reflects on what the general public thinks of the device. While apple is genius marketer they also created sum definately iFails ex, Newton and apple tv.

On the other hand everybody is focus on iPad being a netbook and laptop replacement I think where it shines is in application where either of those 2 device would fit say for business use digital menu in restraurants, by doctors and my personnal favorite a portable digital porfolio for artist. This device definately requires ppl to think outside of the box.

Cloud computing is on the horizon as well...
I don't think their idea is bad, (although its not really their idea so much as a dumbed down tablet PC) I think this particular device is a steaming pile of poo with a price tag.

Granted its not as pretty as the iPad and it has no touchscreen but it is 500% more functional and way cheaper.

I have the iPad and I'm sorely tempted to use it as a laptop replacement. Doesn't quite have everything i need yet, but it's so incredibly easy to take around.

I've also replaced the factory nav only fx35 with the iPhone and Navigon. Infinitely better traffic routing.

I think using the iPad in the FX as a display thats not able to be removed would be taking away from what the iPad is intended for. You'd be limiting the use of its features. Its directed more towards being a carry around device. I really think this is a step in the future by way of how will get are information through news and books. Play games, watch home videos, pictures, movies. I just got an email yesterday from borders directing me to look at there new way to upload books to your iPad. Could you imagine a student needing information, look for the book he needs and within minuets be getting the info.

Soon kids will be asking, dad why do they call it a news paper? or paper back book?

YouTube- Apple - iPad - What is iPad?

Anybody who puts an iPad in their car vs. a real computer should be slapped...and castrated just for added emphasis. Why would you ever pay so much for a device that can do so little?

Sure, I think anyone who uses an Apple product should also be slapped, but if you absolutely must have Apple's crap in your vehicle, at least use a Mac.

You'd be limiting the use of its features.

That sounds like the challenge for a contest. I can see the promotion already. "We don't think it's possible, but if you can make this iPad do EVEN less than it already does, we'll give you a million dollars!"

Hater go away. I have an IPAD & love it.
I mean, . . for the crapper alone it's awesome. Brings it to a whole new level.
Now slap me . . I guess :err:

Consider yourself slapped! Hahahaha
Even though its a neat gadget it is over priced and functionally limited. But a nice web browser for the can like gto said, lol.

The iPad will have more uses in the future, remember its only 1 month old. I know in just the photography world they are waiting for software that will let them tether to there camera. Meaning shoot photos and instantly see them on a bigger screen. Thats huge because its such a light and portable device over a laptop.

I've had pc's for over 10 yrs now and 9 months ago I bought a Mac pro. Will I ever go back to pc's ? I definetly will not and will not even buy my daughters a pc.

Why??? Mac...They just work.

They already have software like that. I use it on my netbook on occasion.

Just wait until somebody actually cares enough about a Mac to write numerous viruses for it. It won't work so well then.

...

Imagine a device like the iPad, but open source, with a universal port (usb perhaps?), a card reader of some kind, a gigantic removable HD, and without the Steve Jobs stranglehold on development that would allow kids to quickly and easily write their own software to suit their individual needs. THAT is the future. The ability to find info online and download books to portable devices is "the now". The absurd proprietary lock-down Apple places on their recent mobile devices is a poor attempt at revisiting the past.

Anybody who puts an iPad in their car vs. a real computer should be slapped...

Seriously. A proper Mac or PC car-puter is soooooo much more.

+1.

I checked one out a few days ago. It's a new toy, in a segment that was not there before, therefore ppl will buy it. I guess it's useful to have in your semi if you're a delivery driver to kill time while waiting to get loaded (my bro is a truck driver, he says it's quite useful)
