Interior Squeaking

So last week i had a strange rattle inside the car everytime i go over a bump and I've determine its my chewing gum that was causing the problem. My drive was noise free for about a week.

Today I've notice the interior started squeaking :tdown: near the cd player, Squeaks when I go over bump and I can make it squeak by pressing on it as well

Now Before I got the fx I did my research and found the interior build quality to not be the best, but I went with the fx for the performance if I wanted a perfect interior I would have gone Audi. But its only been a year and already its squeaking? I was expecting the squeak to not come until maybe 3-4 year of ownership.

So here's my question for both 1st gen and 2nd gen. When did you interior started squeaking or is there anyone that does not have any squeaking? Is this cover under warranty?

I do like to bang my music alot, could this contribute to the squeak?
 
- small squeak after 3 months of ownership.
- Major dashboard squeak after 3 years of ownership
- Major rear view mirror rattling after 4 years of ownership
- Major interior door trim squeaking after 4 years of ownership

Gave up on fixing all those due to lack of will of support and taking responsibilities by the dealership in Vancouver, BC. :tdown:

I change my exhaust, so it is loud enough pretty much all the time when I driving, so I won't hear much of those noises.
 
:) nice a list of rattling and squeaking to look forward to lol. So you took it to the dealership and they refuse to help?

I guess my solution is louder music and louder exhaust
 
They said, they couldn't locate or reproduce the problems. Or sorry you already just passed your 4 years basic warranty for just 1 week. Our computer will not even let us to do it for free.
 
I had this problem too. There is a DIY guide on how to fix this issue. I did it myself and it only took about 20 minutes.

I don't know about you, but I find that the interior is built really good. Every car is going to have it's own issue. It doesn't matter if a car is new or not, new cars have problems too. Audi is not headache free just to let you know. It's a German made car, ofcoarse it's going to have problems.

Actually Infiniti was in Top 10 cars for best quality by J.D Power Associates. Audi scored below the industry average with just about every other German made car. Even Nissan scored above Audi which is quite sad.

IMO Infiniti's interior quality is not quite up to par as other luxury brand except for maybe Acura (which I still don't understand why Honda doesn't just can Acura in north america) The newer generation of Infinitis are certainly a major step up. but the way I see it is Japanese luxury cars (from my experience of Infiniti and Lexus) offers excellent reliablity but still lacks a little in the fit and finish department. I know Euros are not prefect but their detail from fitment to the material they use is still superior to any japanese luxury ride. But than of course fit and finish is not everything you still have to factor in performance/price ratio, reliablity, resale value factor which imo Japanese luxury wins hands down.

Don't get me wrong I still love my FX:rofl: Despite some problems I have had with it still to this day no regrets:smile:

Anyways thanks for the guide, I'm going in for service soon I will see if my dealer is willing to work with me if not I will try out the diy:cool:

Good luck with service bro...When I had the problem, service could not fix the issue I was having with the creaking noise. It had been at 2 dealers and they could not confirm exactly where the sound was coming from. That's why I had to do it myself and everything was perfect after that :)

If service doesn't work out for you, do it yourself ;)

The comment was in regard to the interior build quality. As a current owner of both an Audi and an Infiniti, I wholly agree with threezero; Infiniti has nothing on Audi's interior craftsmanship. Everything from ergonomics and material choice to road noise and execution is just plain better from ze germans. In terms of overall reliability though I would agree with you that every car has it's problems...

Also, your comments about the JD Power & assoc. ratings are a bit misleading, as they change every year. Currently (2010) Audi, Infiniti, and Nissan hold the same "average" rating in the category of "overall quality". Here's a LINK to their website The three manufacturers you mentioned also hold the same "average" rating for overall dependability, as can be seen by following this LINK. In the overall "performance and design" category, Audi and Infiniti hold the same "above average" rating while Nissan trails both with an "average" rating. Finally, in the "body and interior quality" category, Audi scored higher than both Infiniti and Nissan.
 
I remember few years ago I took a look at JD Power and they had landrover rank really high in terms of reliability. I never trust them from then on

Your a 1st gen owner right? Just to let you know the 2nd gen rides way quieter than the 1st gen. The suspension setup is also different too. I've been in the new A5 and Q5 and it doesn't ride any quieter than my my 2nd Gen FX. Infiniti really stepped it up in sound proofing too. Just pulling back the second row seat cover when the seat is in the floor you can tell cause you can see how much sound deadening material was used. When I'm driving the only thing I hear is VHR and exhaust and that's only under heavy acceleration.

In the 2nd gen FX the doors are lined and double stitched with leather and other soft touch goodies and no plastic at all, and the wood choice is excellent. They even used LED mood lighting in the interior door handles on all four doors. I love when they make little things pop. Every single thing in the car is soft touch except the rocker panel cause people usually step up on that. Maybe some people are more picky than other's but I love the way the interior is built. I'm just not a fan of Audi interior's. The material's may be good but the layout is just bland IMO. Everyone has their own opinion's on things. I can bet you a few months into ownership on an Audi or any other car, something is going to turn up that bother's you. I'm not a fanboy of Infiniti or anyother car. I just buy what's out that's good :tongue (2):

I made a mistake on the Nissan part, but Audi did score below the industry average, with Infiniti being in the top 10.
 
Wow nice,, my driver seat is squeaking when the car moves its driving me nuts lol is there anything to do about it? I love the quality of infiniti..
 
Yea u kind of gave up on the squeaking and rattling already. My dash rattle HARD at certain rpm. My seat squeaks and move a little when braking. My side mirror also rattle =\ all this in less than 2 yrs

Just follow that.

As for the seat squeaking noise, that's the seat belt socket rubbing up against the side of the seat. All it needs is to be is adjusted. I had that issue and the dealer fixed that.

And the mirror rattling problem I had too. The dealer fixed mine cause their is a TSB on that issue. All the did was tighten the mirrors up and BAM, the rattling is gone =]

That's the seat belt socket rubbing up against the seat. The dealer adjusted mine so that it's a little further away from the seat, and mine stopped squeaking.:tup:
 
What crap...my G didn't have an squeaking noises, this thing started the center console squeaking a month and a week after I picked it up from the dealership! I definitely notice it a lot now, guess I'll have to raise the volume when I drive! Will look into that DYI if it gets worse, thanks fire!
 
My driver seat sqeaks as well. It is definitely a metal on metal squeak and it drives me nuts. The bolts probably need to be tightened or something

Shortly after buying my '03 FX35 last month the driver seat started squeaking like crazy. One of the left side rear mounting bolts was slightly loose. I tightened it and also applied some white lithium grease to the metal hinge in the same area. I don't know which fixed it but *knock on wood* it has been quiet since.
