Interior Project with Carbon Fiber

That looks good. I know what my next project is

I did mine about 8 months ago. Carbon black 3M DiNoc Film. It is not a carbon film ,it's vinyl, but none of them are to the best of my knowledge. 3M is supposed to be one of the best, but what brand names can you you trust anymore?
It sure is holding up well.
Sub freezing winter temps and 100 plus summer temps and no wrinkling or fading.
Rock solid. Requires NO adhesive.
Lifespan is 12 years interior 4 years exterior. (We'll see about that.)
So far, so sweet. Cool stuff

FYI... It does not look this contrasing in normal lighting. This is because of the flash. It was taken at night in the unlit garage.

So my two sampler strips came in. Since I have a black interior probably going to go with black carbon. I silver everywhere will be too much of a contrast. Here are the strips side by side. What u think?

GetluckiFK, that looks absolutely awesome. I just bought a 2003 fx35 with technology package. Love the car, but it could use an face lift and I think this is it. Only issue is that I have no experience in a project like this. Is it as easy as it seems? Would you suggest taking it to a place to get it done? Thanks for the help, and a great idea.

•sir21: in your case, black makes more sense, it will compliment the black interior. I went with silver simply because I like the contrast :)

•ryancooch: it really is an easy DIY. I would suggest trying it yourself first, you can't break anything, worse case scenario, you will have to get a pro if you don't like your work, but it's not worth paying the bucks for something I'm sure you can do on your own. Just be patient with it. If you don't have a heat gun, a hair dryer will work too.

Guys definitely post the pics after you're done. Share your hard work with the rest of the :iS:

Do you kknow if the process is reversible lucki?

Just heat it up and remove it... like a vinyl sticker.
They suggest that you remove it before it starts to dry out. (which should take a while, years, I'm sure) otherwise the sticky backing may leave a hard to clean residue.
Also, when installing it you can lift and reset the film if needed. It it super easy to work with. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to apply it wrinkle free. I think it's semi porous so that air bubbles don't get trapped underneath.
Oh yeah, just one more thing... I feel the hair dryer does a great job producing the required heat for this project. A heat gun may melt the film, burn your fingers or even worse... damage your interior.
Of course as they say "It's a poor carpenter that blames his tools"
Be careful.
Post pics.
Peace out

Last Question, how do you do the center console? Will you have to remove it from the vehicle? thanks!

Yes you will have to remove the center console. But, that is very easy to do...
Everything just snaps off.
I think the hardest part was finding out how to remove the shifter knob... you can find out here on
:iS:///4005

It is not hard at all. I would say that this is one of the easiest mods that I have done.
Give it a try.
One tip. Do not remove the ashtray or drink holder cover from the center console assembly. Apply the film in one large piece. Otherwise the pattern of the carbon will not line up correctly.
Good luck.

Thank you man!

What is the procedure in doing the radio bezel? How do you get around all the knobs and buttons?

You have to remove the bezel. Then unscrew the plate that has all the buttons attached to it and air vents, leaving just a shell. When you apply the film using a fine sharp blade or cutter just trim around all openings. Be patient and don't rush it.

I actually have to remove it tomorrow to adjust one of the knobs, so will take some pix of what needs to be removed for your reference.
