Interior Project with Carbon Fiber

hey lucki did you have bubbles? Ive got a ton, dunno if its a bad batch of carbon wrap or what but when I apply it it seems even. Then as I heat it to mold corners bubbles appear. WIll they dissapear overnite?

I never had bubbles issue. When doing corners I heated up the vinyl and then pulled/stretched it a bit and rounded the corners. One trick you can do is, depending on the bubble size is to apply some heat over it briefly and then with your thumb just press on it, it will disappear, if it seems big, with a credit card, kind of spread it apart into two or three smaller bubbles then heat and press. If you can take a pic so I get a better idea.

Ocal- the center console just pops off, same with the door handles. Once you take off the console youll need to unscrew the clock, coin holder and cupholder from the bottom of console. There will also be some connections youll need to unplug. The sides of the console have screws that are visible when the console is out. Unscrew them and they also come off.

it also depends on what brand of vinyl are using. It's really hard to work with cheap stuff. 3M is the best looking carbon film IMO. Metrorestyling(via eBay) has the best price on 3M Di-Noc vinyl.

Ok thanks I'm going to see if I play around with it before attempting to wrap it.

Mind you that you and sir21 have different consoles, since yours is >06. So yours will be harder to take off if you want to remove the part that has the clock.

That's odd. When squeegeeing, use a credit card. Once it's on there, heat it up and continue squeegeeing then move on to the next area.
If this was during Spring Break, I would've recorded a video on the removal and application of the wrap.
This is the wrap I bought, btw:

Did you buy a 3M one(printed 3M logo and red guide lines on the back liner) or metrorestyling brand? They are totally different vinyls.

Just saw it. OK that's more bubbles than normal, but they should of deflated. Depends on the technique you used to apply the film, I basically rolled it out while using a squeegee to avoid bubbles or my thumb on the rounded areas, when all laid flat and even, then I begun cutting the openings for the switches and all and rounding them down/around. Overall looks good, but don't know why the bubbles wouldn't go away.

You have to squeegee it, your fingers don't apply even pressure. On your door handles, it's a very small area so the fingers can cover it. But with a larger area, you will need to squeegee it. They show up when you apply heat because the air will heat up and expand making the bubble more noticable.

thanks for the tips guys. I ordered another roll so hopefully that goes smoother

I'll take the pics of the squeegee I use, it has a piece if felt attached to it, to really get a good squeeze and also prevent from leaving marks on the surface. I'm also thinking of redoing the radio bezel in black instead of current silver, I feel like I have too much silver inside so want to reduce it a bit. If I go to do it the next couple of days I'll take a few pics of the application process if you like.

My FXs interior is taken apart so I'm having the wrap rushed to me. Should have it by Thursday hopefully. I'll go and buy a squeegee and try that way..... Although most of he bubbles disappeared now that the covered parts were in the garage for two days. But I'm still redoing the big center console part since I ripped it off....

This is a great solution to a scratched center console! Such a great look too! Anyone seen anything other than carbon fiber? Perhaps a wood grain or something?
