Intake Plenum or Spacer

Here is the Autozone part that I use, http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...ing=search&itemIdentifier=245770_517010_5972_

It when up $10? Wow. Since the access port on the Spectre intake tube is smaller then the tube that goes to the valve cover, I cut about 1" of the tubing that comes with the kit and use it as a spacer so that the oem tubing can fit snugly on there. You will need to buy two hump coupling like this for ease with bending. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-PLY-UNIVE...es&vxp=mtr&hash=item23186f5cc4#ht_2927wt_1237

Here are two pics for your reference.

Mike, since you are in NY, go for the Copper Iso thermal spacer. I have the 5/16 copper iso thermal. It is ideal for colder regions. I read somewhere that 5/16 is said to give more added boost on the low to mid range rpms while the 1/2 is more on the higher rpms. Since NY driving has more stop and go, I think the 5/16 is ideal. My 2 cents

Totally agree - get the 5/16. Good for the FX since we are bigger and have more drivetrain loss. This is really only benefitting wide open throttle - the rest of the time you might only notice a tone change.

I like the whole upper plenum replacement^^^ is that a Crawford?

Nice! Thanks for the links. This would be my next project. It is a pity that LMS stopped production on their Ztube. I like their set up and the bright red orange color would look nice under the hood. I have been living up with my pressure bleeding Stillen z-tubes for quite sometime now.

As matter of fact, I just found my Stillen Z-tube. I was looking all over for it last time another member ask me about it. You have the Stillen Z-tube installed?

Yeah, too bad LMS no longer making their tube. I like it too.

Yes, I have the Stillen z-tube for quite sometime. I felt that the accordion type tube that connects the z-tube to my Stillen CAI still bleeds too much pressure.

Another member who switched from the Stillen z-tube to the rigid type tube said he noticed a big difference in engine power responsiveness.

so you guys are saying ztube isnt the way to go? is there any ohter one piece tubes that fit our fx? where does the sensor thats on the intake go then?

still not sure which one to get. kinetix, crawford or motorydyne! grr

Whichever brand you go, they are all good products. Nobody really has a definitive answer on which is better. I think if at all there are differences in gains may be negligible since they have similar design features.

Did you end up doing the z-tube mod?

yea i got ztube wit stillen cai.

i like the kinetix cause of no heatsoak but the material is easy to break if to tight
Motordyne had good reviews and stock looking but the heatsoak is huge.
crawford i didn;t really look into it

So let me get this straight? U need to modify the intake (stillen) pipe after installing the 5/16 spacer kit?
I plan on picking up the stillen intake 2moro locally for $180 or less and i want to do the spacer aswell.

No, you don't need any modification to intake pipe with spacer or plenum installation.

^No. What the spacer exactly does is giving your plenum a larger area to take in air into the engine. Since you have a larger cavity on the plenum, plus if you do the CAI upgrade, it allows for higher intake of air to the engine, thus some gains in engine power. In plain terms, it is just a piece of hardware placed in between the lower and upper plenum to increase the compartment between them. That plus it helps isolate heat soak again relates to performance.
