Install New Shocks, Struts and H&R Springs

Awesome writeup! Fixing to tackle this tomorrow afternoon. If the delivery makes it and I've got sun that is. Had the rf strut explode last week and figured it's time to rebuild. Ordered Nissan bearings from eBay but got the plastics (dangit), struts, lower control arms, boots n bumps all shipped form RockAuto.com for $404. Can't beat that! Hope to get another 100K. Just gotta figure out what to do with the torn driver seat side and cracked dash! Hate the aftermarket cover on there now. Otherwise she's still perty!

Curious what size nuts those are or if I'll need to search for some larger sockets. Anything larger than 18mm on that strut tower?

Thanks much,
Robert

Those plastic bearings
Are the revised part. They won't break. When u go to coils someday, all that will come out anyway

When you replace the strut bearings, do you need to replace the strut mount too or is it all one piece?

If i remember correctly, the strut mount plate that the three bolts come up through stays in place and doesnt come out/get replaced. I think I may be mistaken on what the strut mount is though.

They stay in place unless you add a strut brace then the base plate of the strut brace replace the mounting plates.

thanks for this DIY. it's very helpful. i ended up using my existing strut bearings(a bit confused on the correct part number 54325-8J000 vs 54325-AG000) and front boots on my 03 FX45. had to get some new rear boots.

thanks again!

3)Remove bumper and gator and put on new shock--

In step 3 for the rear shocks, how did you get the top nut off? Its got a hex shaped hole in it, and the shock just spins inside itself. I put a 17mm crescent wrench around the nut and tried using an Allen-key by hand, but it won't budge. Ive got an impact gun, but I haven't tried that. Can someone advise? 1. Is there a special tool? 2. Will the sudden torque of the impact tool remove it? 3. must the shock be on the car (cant get enough clearance for the impact under there)? Thank you for taking the time to add this DIY write up.

You are on the right track. I suspect that the nut is just stuck a bit. It normally does come off with an impact gun, but not always. If not, then hold the shock fro turning with the allen key, and try to remove the nut. If you are not reusing the shock, just grab the shock shaft with some vice grips and use the impact gun.
