I saw the new QX50 at the LA Autoshow yesterday and it looks fine in a bland kind of way. Infiniti has clearly decided to go where the market is, transverse-mounted engine, FWD-bias, CVT. Honestly, if it still drives great, none of it matters, but it will never be an FX, of course.
First thing I missed when I sat in it was the extendable armrest. That is a brilliantly simple solution to a real issue on long drives, so simple and brilliant I wonder why it has not been more widely adopted?
I spoke to a rep and she confirmed that the QX70 has officially been discontinued for 2018, with no plans for a replacement. It’s the end of an era. Acura did the same with the RDX, and sales skyrocketed.
I sat in a lot of cars yesterday, and when I stepped back in my FX, I was reminded of just how much they got right with its initial design.
