I'm about to scrap this car

2007 Infiniti fx35
I drive an 07 fx35. Last year I was getting a vacuum leak, drove lo Ike that for a year and then was getting misfiring. Found the vacuum leak came from the gasket that goes under the plenum. Had upgraded to motordyne spacers so changed that gasket. Removed all the motord6ne parts (except the copper throttle body gadket) and changed a coil packeaners. Car dr8ves great but will go in limp mode at any time. Took it to a dealership twice and they said they can't find anything wrong or any codes. I do have the two cat codes p0430/420 only. So what I notice is while I'm driving, my wipers will move much slower and 5 minutes later the vdv/slip/abs lights come on and I'm in limp mode. If I let it sit turned off for 45 minutes it'll drive perfect again. Checked brake fluid at dealership and it was low so they topped it up. Anyone have any ideas at what to check next? Just frustrating as I can't drive far cause of the limp mode

If you've got codes, why not just change the cats for starters?

If the wipers ARE affected, sounds like it could be a grounding issue. The coil packs will fry themselves if there's a ground issue, according to a TSB. You may want to look up that TSB and look up some DIY grounding kits for your FX. It seems pretty finicky about the grounds from some weird threads I've read...

I love this car, just frustrated. I would never scrap it. For some reason I was feeling it was a grounding issue. How many grounds do we have and where? I want to look under the hood and make sure they're good. Thank for all the help. I really need to fix this as I'm scared to drive far

electrical gremlins required an electrical solution. get a odbii logger, capture and read pre/post limp mode data. also, a simple thing that you can do is to wire up a volt meter with max/min indicator and then capture car's the voltage reading.

I think the reference number for the TSB is ITB011-017

That one talks about replacing a bolt, cleaning battery grounds, etc...

Then there used to be (and probably still are) commercial grounding kits for the FX... So most people checked them out and just made their own DIY versions... I think there's a HOW-TO here, but I've definitely seen a HOW-TO somewhere... Maybe even on YouTube...

Teemoney - I had an epic battle with my 04 fx35.

There are going to be a few things you need to swap and fix. Including your ECM. It’s not crazy expensive to repair of broken like mine was.
I have a long write up on all the issues somewhere. I’ll try to find it.

PM me if you like.

I pondered fixing my car with some C4. Now it runs better than it ever has.

Two more things I want to add. I recently had a shop put a new lower plenum gasket on and they mentioned a corroded wire that they replaced. The other thing is when I turn my car off while in limp mode the seat belt light stays on for awhile and I know it's not because of my actual seat belt connection. Problem did start after they replaced my lower plenum gasket

Does the tsb mean the dealership is responsible to fix it?

Thank all of you for the h r lp. Tierra I will pm you. I actually have a spare ecu. If I change the ecu would the problem still be there? Does the ecu need to be programmed? The ecu I have is the original ecu. I changed it cause a previous problem I had the dealership said it was the ecu

Pretty sure it depends on the severity of the TSB, but this one I'm pretty sure they'll charge you for it out of warranty... Within warranty, it probably would have been covered...

Damn alternator. Was the alternator. I've had an alternator go bad on me on my fx before and didn't get these symptoms

glad it's fixed. the voltmeter test would have found it and saved the frustrations. did at anytime your battery at any of these time wasn't able to turn the motor over without a jump?

Even in limp mode the car would start no problem usually. Was the last time my car went in limp mode and i turned it off and tried to start it again and all i got was click click click, so my cousin said he feels its the alternator.Had the alternator tested and it was good. Replaced it cause my alternator guy said alternators could cause these symptoms and voila, problem fixed. Was a painful journey
